Lake Berryessa is the largest lake in Napa, California. This reservoir is formed by the Monticello Dam, which provides water and hydroelectric power to the North Bay Area of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The famous Monticello Dam on Lake Berryessa, is best known for its unique hydro spillway. This type of weir is a giant concrete pipe into which water flows when the lake rises. The Monticello Dam weir is also known as the Glory Hole. Water begins to overflow into the pipe when the volume of the lake reaches about 2 million cubic meters of water.
