Fathers understand their newborn children at the level of neurons and can read their minds, scientists have proved.

The study involved 32 men who had recently become fathers: their brains reacted in a special way to their own children in an MRI scanner. When watching videos of babies, it was their own child who activated the zones responsible for emotions, reward and understanding of other people's thoughts.

The strength of the response depended not on the age of the baby or the time spent with him, but on how much the father felt emotionally connected.

The results of the study disprove the myth that "by nature" men lack the subtle understanding of an infant. Their brains are able to literally "read" a child's emotions and adjust to his needs, which means that the paternal instinct exists.
