INFLUENCE is situated in the intersection of machine learning, reinforcement learning and multiagent systems. The aim of the project is to investigate how to scale up methods for automated decision making for complex systems.
In particular, we will focus on using machine learning techniques to learn representations of 'influence' (e.g. how certain parts of the system affect other parts), and using such representations to scale up decision making. INFLUENCE will focus on two problems domains:
-coordinated control of traffic lights in a large city
-autonomous warehousing with teams of robots
(But also other domains can be considered).

We are seeking a highly-motivated individual to join a multidisciplinary research team to develop machine learning techniques for treatment decision support. The project offers opportunities to develop/apply novel machine learning and reinforcement learning techniques to derive insights from heterogeneous observational data from electronic health
records as well as multivariate physiological signals from patient monitors.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated an outstanding capability for independent research and a solid publication record in top-tier machine learning, AI conferences. Candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field. Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas would be desirable:
deep learning, representation learning, generative models, transfer and multi-task learning, reinforcement learning, high-dimensional

The Reiser lab at the Janelia Research Campus seeks a creative scientist to join our endeavor to understand how the fly brain uses visual information to control behavior.
We use behavioral, anatomical, imaging, electrophysiological, and computational techniques to crack the neural circuits for vision and navigation in Drosophila. This is an exciting time to be working on the fly brain. It is the golden age of Drosophila neuroanatomy—full brain connectomes and precise genetic access to nearly every cell type in the brain are on the horizon. It is likely that within the next few years the behavioral methods used for establishing functional roles for identified cell types will become rate limiting. We have developed a number of new instruments and methods for high-content behavioral analysis and are recruiting a scientist to help with the development and application of these new tools.
In this position you would lead our efforts to apply these new tools to deeply map behavioral circuits. Many specific projects are possible that are related to active research topics in the lab (visual motion guided behaviors; visual place learning; central modulation of visual circuits).
Requirements:
A keen interest in figuring out the brain.
Ph.D. in neuroscience, experimental biology, or a quantitative field.
Familiarity with diverse computing environments.
Experience in animal behavior, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, instrumentation, computer vision, machine learning, and/or computational neuroscience is a big plus.

❓ من با یه استادی جلسهی #مصاحبهی اسکایپی دارم. میشه بگین چه سوالاتی ممکنه پرسیده بشه؟

🔎 در جلسهی اسکایپی معمولا سوالات چالش برانگیزی پرسیده نمیشود. هدف اصلی آشنایی با خود شما و زمینههای کاری شما میباشد (و البته آشنا شدن شما با آنها)، که قاعدتا انتظار میرود در آنها مسلط باشید. بنابراین ممکن است ابتدا از شما خواسته شود که کمی در مورد بکگراندتان توضیح دهید. پس میتوانید با توضیحی کمتر از یک دقیقه در مورد مقاطع تحصیلی و سپس توضیحی طولانیتر در مورد پایاننامهتان، یا مقالههایتان صحبتتان را آغاز کنید. ممکن است از قبل از شما خواسته شود که پاورپوینتی در حد ده دقیقه نیز آماده کنید. اگر از شما خواسته نشده نیز پیشنهاد میکنیم که آماده کنید و از روی پاروپورنت توضیحاتتان را ارائه کنید.

🔍 وقتی در مورد پایاننامهتان، مقالهتان یا کلا هر پروژهی پژوهشیای توضیح میدهید (نه فقط در مصاحبه؛ بلکه در کاور لتر یا موتیویشن لترتان هم)، یادتان باشد که در دل توضیحاتتان باید جواب سه پرسش زیر نهفته باشد: آ- سوال پژوهشیتان، یا انگیزه، یا فرضیهای که برمبنای آن پروژه را آغاز کردید چه بود؟ ب- برای پاسخگویی به آن سوال پژوهشی یا اثبات آن فرضیه از چه متدولوژیای، یا تجهیزاتی بهره بردید؟ پ- به چه نتایجی رسیدید و چه دستاوردهایی داشت؟

🔎 احتمال اینکه سوال درسی پرسیده شود وجود دارد ولی احتمالش پایین است.
🔍 احتمالا یکی از سوالات این خواهد بود که چگونه با این استاد یا این دانشگاه آشنا شدهاید؟ که بهتر است به مقالههای استاد نگاهی داشته باشید و انگیزههای قانع کنندهای را بیان کنید.

⚠️ چند نکتهی تکمیلی بسیار مهم در مورد جلسهی اسکایپی وجود دارد که بهتر است به آنها توجه کنید:
1️⃣ اول از همه از اتصال مناسب اسکایپ کامپیوتر یا گوشی خود مطمئن شوید. میتوانید برای مثال یک ساعت قبل، اسکایپی با یکی از اعضای خانواده تماس بگیرد و از اتصال مناسب اطمینان حاصل کنید.
2️⃣ به موقع آماده باشید و خودتان راس ساعت تماس بگیرید.
3️⃣ با شلوارک و کت روبروی دوربین ننشینید! هر چند ممکن است که شلوارک شما دیده نشود! آقایان نیاز به زدن کراوات ندارند، و خانومهایی که تمایل به داشتن حجاب دارند میتوانند آن را حفظ کنند. کسی بابت این موارد در مورد شما قضاوت نخواهد کرد. ولی مهم است که مرتب و منظم باشید.

4️⃣ هر چند احتمالا خودتان رعایت خواهید کرد، ولی بد نیست یادآوری شود که خیلی سنگین و خیلی مودبانه برخورد کنید! درست است که در کشورهای خارجی معمولا استاد و دانشجو یکدیگر را با نام کوچک صدا میزنند، ولی شما در جلسهی اول جو گیر نشوید و نگویید های جان! سلام کردن با های و هی، برای گفتگوی رسمی مناسب نیست. بنابراین از اصطلاحات رسمیتر مانند هلو یا گودافترنون یا گودمورنینگ استفاده کنید. استاد را به نام خانوادگیاش و با پیشوند پروفسور خطاب کنید. مثلا هلو پرافسر آنتونی! در مورد احوال زن و بچه (یا شوهر بچه!) و آب و هوا از او نپرسید! (دیدم که میگم!). نه خیلی خیلی رسمی و نه خیلی خیلی پسرخاله باشید!

5️⃣ از آنجایی که احتمالا این جزو محدود تجربههای شماست که به زبان انگلیسی استادی با شما مصاحبه میکند، بنابراین بسیار مهم است که بتوانید خوب او را بشنوید و خوب نیز سخن بگویید. سخن گفتن به معنی فلوئنت بودن لزوما نیست. ولی باید در سطح نسبتا قابل قبولی باشید. تا استاد را بخوبی نشنیدید یا متوجه منظورش نشدید، شروع به پاسخگویی نکنید. یادتان باشد جواب ندادن بهتر از جواب غلط و یا بیربط دادن است. بنابراین ابتدا مطمئن شوید که به خوبی معنی سوال استاد را فهمیدهاید. در صورتی که از پرسش استاد مطمئن نیستید میتوانید از عبارات زیر استفاده کنید و به او بگویید که معنی حرف او را متوجه نشدهاید و از او بخواهید که دوباره تکرار کند.

6️⃣ بعد از اینکه پرسشهای استاد به پایان رسید ممکن است کمی در مورد گروه، پروژه، دانشگاه یا فاند توضیحاتی ارائه دهد. آنها را خوب گوش کنید. همچنین ممکن است در نهایت از شما بپرسد که آیا شما از من سوالی ندارید؟ در اینجا نیز با پرسیدن سوالات بیمورد خودتان را به چالش نکشید. صرفا سوالی ساده بپرسید یا بگویید سوالی ندارم ولی اگر داشتم از طریق ایمیل مطرح خواهم کرد.

Although all fields of specialization in statistics and applied probability are admissible, a research program linking statistics to machine learning and/or big data is a major asset. In addition, a successful candidate with a high level of research activity in the development of statistical methods for machine learning may be recommended for a CIFAR Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence. Candidates who will soon complete their PhD, as well as candidates who hold a PhD in a related field (e.g., Computer Science) with a strong expertise in Statistics, are invited to apply. Hiring will normally be at the rank of assistant professor and the appointment would start in the summer of 2019.
