The Upbringing of Three Daughters
Shaykh Allaamah Abdul Azeez bin Abdullaah Bin Baaz Rahimahullaah
Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

The Question:
The Messenger of Allaah – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said: ❝Whoever had three daughters and was patient with them, gave them drink and clothed them then they will be a screen for him from the Fire.❞

Will this screen from the Fire be just for their father alone or does the mother have a share in this? I have -all praise be to Allaah – three daughters.

The Answer:
The hadeeth is general for the father and the mother due to the Messenger’s saying: ❝Whoever has two daughters and is good to them then they will be a covering for him from the Fire.❞

Likewise, if he had sisters, aunts or similar to them and he is good to them then indeed we hope for Paradise for him due to that.

So when he is good to them he is deserving of a great reward, it will screen him from the Fire and it will come between him and the Fire due to his good deed.

This is specific to the Muslims. If a Muslim performs these good actions desiring the Face of Allaah, then he has attained a means for his salvation from the Fire.

Being saved from the Fire and entering into Paradise has many routes, so it is necessary for a believer to increase in them. Islaam itself is a single foundation and it is the fundamental reason for entering Paradise and being rescued from the Fire.

There are deeds which, if a Muslim performs them, he enters Paradise due to them and is saved from the Fire, such as the one who has been given daughters or sisters and is good to them, then they will be a screen for him from the Fire. Similarly, whoever had three of his offspring, who had not reached the age of accountability, die then they will be a screen for him from the Fire.

The Companions asked: ❝O Messenger of Allaah what about two daughters?❞
He answered: ‘Even two,’ and they did not ask him about one daughter.

It is authentically reported on the authority of the Messenger – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – that he said: Allaah – Azza wa Jal- said, ❝For My believing slave who, if I take his close friend from the people of the Duniya and then he performs righteous actions, there is no reward except Paradise.❞

So Allaah –Subhanahu wa Ta’ala- explained that for His believing slave whose close friend He takes- i.e. His beloved – from the people of the Duniya, who is then patient and performs good deeds, He has no reward other than Paradise.

So even if one of our offspring enters this hadeeth and Allaah takes possession of him and takes him to Himself, then if that person’s father, mother or both of them are patient and they perform good deeds then they will have Paradise, and that is great excellence from Allaah.

Similarly, a husband, wife, the rest of the relatives and friends, if they are patient and perform good deeds then they enter this hadeeth provided that they are safe from that which could, perhaps, cause them to die on any of the major sins. We ask Allaah for safety.

It is reported from Ḥabīb Al-Jallāb that he asked ʿAbdullāh b. Al-Mubārak – Allāh have mercy on him:
“What is the best thing a person is ever given?”
He replied, “Innate intelligence.” He then asked, “And if not that?” He replied, “Good conduct.”
He then asked, “And if not that?” He replied, “A compassionate brother to consult.”
He then asked, “And if not that?” He replied, “Long silence.”
He asked, “And if not that?”
Ibn Al-Mubārak replied, “Then an early death.”

Benefits of Eemaan in Qadr
By Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen (d.1421 A.H.) -Rahimullaah-

Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen said in ‘Sharh al-Aqeedah al-Wasiteeyah’:

‘Having Eemaan in Qadr has benefits, from them are:

1- Qadr is from the perfection of al-Eemaan, and al-Eemaan cannot be complete without it.

2- It is from the perfection of Eemaan in Ruboobeeyah (Allaah’s Lordship), because the Qadr of Allaah is from His Actions.

3- That a person returns all his matters to his Lord; because if he knows that everything is with Allaah’s Qada and His Qadr, then he will return to Allaah in repelling harm for the relief from it, and he will attribute prosperity to Allaah and he will know that this is from the excellence of Allaah upon him.

4- That a person knows his own worth, and he does not become proud when doing good.

5- That afflictions/problems become easier for Allaah’s slave; because if a person knows that it is from Allaah then his afflictions/problems is lessened. As Allaah Ta’ala said:

وَمَن يُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ يَهۡدِ قَلۡبَهُۥۚ

<< Whoever believes in Allaah then his heart is tranquil>> [Taghabun: 11]

6 – Ascribing blessings to the one who renders that blessing, this is because if you did not believe in Qadr you would ascribe blessings to the who takes care of giving those blessings, and this is present a lot amongst those who approach kings, leaders and ministers. If they receive from them what they want they say that the excellence was from them, and they forget the excellence of the Creator Subhanahu.

It is correct that it is obligatory upon a person to be thankful to the people, due to the statement of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa salam:

ومن أتى إليكم معروفا ؛ فكافئوه

‘Whoever does a favour for you then compensate that person.’ [Saheehah no. 254 & Irwaa No. 1617], however it should be known that the foundation of all foundations is the excellence of Allaah – Azza wa Jal – which Allah placed at the hand of this man.

7 – So that a person can know the wisdom of Allaah – Azza wa Jal -. This is because when he looks into this universe and what occurs in it from amazing, brilliant changes, then he comes to know about the Wisdom of Allaah Azza wa Jal – and this is in contrast to the one who forgets al-Qada and al-Qadr then he does not get this benefit.

There are 3 types of Tullaab ul ilm :
1. Those who devote themselves completely to seeking knowledge.
2. Those who divide their time equally between seeking knowledge and seeking the permissible rizq.
3. Those engaged full time in seeking worldly provision but who seek knowledge to fulfill their obligatory duties.
All the above examples can be found if one examines the lives of the companions.

Abū ad-Dardā رضي الله عنه:

“Strive in making Du'ā for whoever increases in knocking at the door then it is at the brink of opening up.”

● [المصنف لابن أبي الشيبة ٢\٦]
Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāilḥ al-ʿUthaymīn (رحمه الله) was asked: “I heard and read that if a Muslim dies on a Thursday night, or during the day on a Friday, he will have a good station [in Jannah]. What is your view on that? May Allāh reward you.”

The shaykh (رحمه الله) said:

The Ḥadīth which reported the merit of dying on a Friday is inauthentic, since an individual is rewarded based on his voluntary actions [i.e. actions he did out of his free will]. The death of an individual on a Friday is not by choice [i.e. is not of his free will]. If death came to him on a Thursday, he is incapable of delaying it until Friday. [Similarly,] he is incapable of expediting it to Friday, if it was written for him to die on a Saturday.

[Thus,] every Ḥadīth that mentioned the merit of dying on a particular day is inauthentic because recompense is based on the voluntary actions of the slave.

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn (رحمه الله) was asked: “Is dying on a Friday a sign of a good ending?”

The shaykh (رحمه الله) stated: "No. There is no significance in dying on any given day. [However,] if dying on a particular day had some virtue, then Tuesday would have been the most virtuous [day to die on] since it was the day that the Prophet (ﷺ) died on. Nevertheless, I do not know of any particular day that is virtuous to die on."
