Ibn ‘Uthaimīn on Buying, Selling, or Using Fireworks

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaimīn

Categorized under: Dealings & Transactions, Fatāwá and Rulings

Questioner: […]What is the ruling of selling, buying or using firecrackers and what are called “fireworks”?

Shaikh Ibn ‘Uthaimīn: […]All praise be to Allāh, Lord of all creation, and may Allāh increase in His praise of our prophet Muḥammad in His highest gatherings, as well as his family and all of his companions.

What I hold is that selling them and buying them is prohibited, and that is due to two reasons.

The first reason is that it is wasting wealth, and wasting wealth is prohibited, due to the Prophet ﷺ having prohibited that.

The second is that there is a harm [and nuisance] in them to people due to their annoying noises; and on occasion, fires occur as a result of them when they fall on something flammable while they’re still live, not having been extinguished.

So due to these two reasons, we hold that they are prohibited, and that it is not permissible to sell them or buy them.

May you all be Honeyed by Allah
The Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, said:
(إذا أحبَّ اللّه عبداً عسّلَه)
If Allah loves a person, he is honeyed by Him,
They asked: what does honeying mean?
He said, “Allah opens for him the door of a righteous deed before his death, and keeps him (firm) on it until his death”
Narrated by Ahmad 17819

Imam Albanee rahimahullah said:
وأمارة هذا التعسيل بأن يرضى عنه من حوله
and the sign of this honeying is that everyone becomes pleased with that person
as this has been proven in a ‘Marfoo addition to this hadith (..until everyone becomes pleased with him)
“السلسلة الصحيحة (١١١٤)”
Silsilah as-Sahihah 1114
It’s said, that Shaykh al-Albani used to supplicate for the one who did a favor by saying: “may you be honeyed by Allah”.

📜 *Dhikr For Repentance*

From Ibn Umar [رضي الله عنه] who said:

We would count that the Messenger of Allaah [] would say in one sitting one hundred times:

﴿رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ﴾‏

_Rab-Bigh-Firlee Wa Tubb Alayyee Innaka Anta At-Tawaabu A-Raheem._

*'O my Lord forgive me and accept my repentance indeed You are the One who forgives and most merciful.'*

After Hardship There Is Ease -

Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullāh):

Grief weakens the heart, weakens determination, hurts a person's will and nothing is more beloved to Shaytan than a sad believer.

Remind Yourself Of Allāh Before You Commit A Sin | Tafseer Benefit

“But for him who fears the standing before his Lord, there will be TWO GARDENS (i.e. in Paradise).” — [al-Qur'ān 55:46]

Mujāhid Raḥimahullāh said: “This reward is for a man who is about to commit a sin but then he remembers his standing in front of Allāh (on the Day of Resurrection) so he abandons it.”

Virtues of ʿA‘isha.

١. She was the dearest wife of the Prophet ﷺ.

٢. The Prophet (ﷺ) did not marry any other virgin but her.

٣. He did not marry a woman whose parents were both Muḥājrīn except her.

٤. Allāh revealed many verses from the heavens regarding her innocence.

٥. She always had knowledge on something the Saḥāba were unsure of.

٦. Jibrīl brought my portrayal from the heaven in silk and said to the Prophet (ﷺ), “marry her, she will be your wife.”

٧. He and her used to bathe from the same vessel, and he did not do that with any of his wives except her.

٨. The revelation would come to him while he was with her, and it did not come down when he was with any of his wives except her.

٩. Allāh took his soul while he was against her chest.

He died on the night when it was her turn.

He was buried in her room.

THE SOWING OF SINS

The sources of every sin are three matters:

1. Arrogance which caused Satan behave the way he did

2. Greed which caused Adam to be expelled from the garden

3. Envy which emboldened one of the sons of Adam against his brother.

He who protects himself from these three matters will be protected from evil. Unbelief comes from arrogance, disobedience comes from greed, and transgression and injustice come from envy.

~ Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله in his al-Fawa’id.

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahinahullaah) said:

‘Every Muslim should be warned of the oppression of:

‘I – My/Mine – I Possess’
...
Indeed these three words are what Iblees (Shaytan), Fir’awn and Qaroon were tried with.

Iblees said: ‘I am better than him’

Fir’awn said: ‘Is not mine the Kingdom of Egypt,’

Qaroon said: ‘This has been given to me only because of knowledge I possess.’

So regarding the saying of the Slave of Allaah ‘I’ – then the best that he can be described with is:

“I am a slave who sins, makes mistakes, seeks forgiveness and recognizes this.“

So regarding the saying of ‘My/Mine’ – and those statements similar to that is:

“My sins, my crimes, my humbleness, my depravation and submissiveness.”

So regarding the saying of ‘I Possess’:

“Forgive me for my mistakes and what I do intentionally, in jest, or in seriousness and I possess all these shortcomings.”

‼️ The worst of your women are the ones who commit Tabarruj!

➡️The Messenger of Allaah (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "And the #worst of your #women are the ones who commit #Tabarruj, who strut around in #arrogance. They are the #hypocrites. None from among them (i.e. these women) will enter #Paradise except (those who are) like the #rare-crow." (Reported by al-Bayhaqi in his Sunan 7/82) and authenticated by al-Albanee in his as-Saheehah (4/1849)

Commentary::
Allaah azza wa jal mentions in his Noble Book: "And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves immorally (tabarruj) like that of the Days of Ignorance. And establish the prayer and give the Zakaat and obey Allaah and His Messenger" (Surah Al-Ahzaab:33)

Ibn Katheer (rahimahmullaah) said:
. -Mujahid said: "A woman would go out and walk amongst men (i.e intermingling). This was the Tabarruj of the Day of ignorance.
. -Qatadah said: "The women would walk out, swaggering and flirting (with men) so Allaah forbade them from doing that"
. -Muqatil bin Hayyan said: "Tabarruj is when a woman puts a Khimar on her head but not fastening it properly so her necklaces, earrings and neck, and all of that can be seen. As a result of this, these are all exposed from her. This is Tabarruj"
📖 (Mukhtasar Tafseer Ibn katheer, volume 3, page 94)

Imam Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Naasir As-Saiadee (rahimahullaah) said: This (ayah) means: Do not go out whilst you are beautified or perfumed, as the women of the Days of Ignorance used to do since they did not have any knowledge or religious characteristics.
📖(Tafseer Ibn Sa'adee, volume 6, no.107)

💭Commenting on this hadeeth, Imaam al-Albaanee (rahimahu Allah) said: "What is meant by the rare crow is that which has a red beak and red legs, as occurs in a hadeeth that states the small amount of women that will enter Paradise. This is since there are very few crows that match this type of denoscription." Silsilaat ul Ahadeeth as'Saheehah vol.4, no.1849.

⭐️4 Rak'ah Before Asr Prayer⭐️

• The ‘Asr Prayer has no routine Sunnah (basic recommended voluntary prayer). However, it is mustahab (preferable and recommended) that one prays 4 Rak'aat before the ‘Asr Prayer.

▪️Ibn Umar narrated that Prophet ﷺ said:
"May Allah have mercy upon a man who prays four before Al-Asr."
[Jami` at-Tirmidhi 430]

▪️Abu Huraira R.A narrated that he heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ saying:

"The good deeds of any person will not make him enter Paradise." (i.e., None can enter Paradise through his good deeds.) They (the Prophet's companions) said, 'Not even you, O Allah's Messenger ﷺ?' He said, "Not even myself, unless Allah bestows His favor and mercy on me."

[Sahih al-Bukhari 5673]
RUQYA WATER AND SIDR :

Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al-'Asqalani (rahimuAllah) said in Al-Fath that Ibn Abtal stated in the books of Wahab bin Menabah to take seven leaves of a green Sidr, grind them with two rocks, add water to it, read the verse of Al Kursi (2:255) and Al-Qawakil (the Surah's which start with "Qul"), take three sips, then wash up with the rest. This will remove all of his afflictions, and is a cure for men who have sexual disorders.

(Fath Al-Bari -10/233)

Al-Lalkaii said that Mohammad Ibn Othman related that Said bin Mohammad Al-Hanat stated, ''Ishaq ibn Abi Israel said, "I heard Sufyan says that Sulayman ibn Omaya (Sheikhh of Thaqif) ibn Masoud heard A'ishah (radhi Allahu anha) advise a woman to use Sidr and water to wash the traces of magic.

(Sharh Usul I'tiqad Ahl As-Sunnah wal-Jamaa -7/1288).

Shaykh Abd Al Aziz bin Abdullah bin Baaz (rahimuAllah) said that the cure of magic after its affliction is beneficial, Allah Willing. A man who cannot have sexual intercourse with his wife is advised to take seven green leaves of Sidr, grind them, put them in a container of water enough for washing the body. He should read the verse of Ayah ul Kursi (2:255), Al Ikhlaas (112), Al Falaqq (113), An Naas (114). He should also read the verses of magic in Surah Al-Aaraf (7)

Allāh Does Not Return Raised Hands Empty

The Messenger of Allāh Ṣallallāhu-'Alaihi Wa Sallam said:

“Indeed, Allāh is Most Merciful, Shy, Generous, He is Shy of His slave that he raises his hands to Him then He does not place anything of Khayr (goodness) in them.”

Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab once said to Al-Ahnaf Ibn Qais:

“O Ahnaf, the more one laughs, the less dignity will he posses. Whoever jokes (excessively or indecently) is a person who will be taken lightly. Whoever does something frequently will become known by that thing. Whoever speaks often, errs often; the more often one errs, the less modesty will he possess; whoever has a low level of modesty will also have a low level of piety; and when one has a low level of piety, then his heart dies.”
