Shaykh Zayd al-Madkhalī ‏( ﺭﺣﻤﻪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ‏) :
❝Friendship does not require silence towards a mistake that a friend or brother falls into. Rather he should alert him immediately (about the mistake), such is an actual brother and a friend who is true in his friendship. As for he who remains silent, then indeed he has not recognised the obligatory right upon him towards his Muslim brothers and sisters.❞

Who Is A Friend?...
Shaykh Ibn Ghālib Al 'Umarī ( ﺣﻔﻈﻪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ) said,
❝A friend is not he who agrees to your habits, mannerism or character, or who absolutely supports your choice, or who offers you worldly support which increases your wealth. Your friend is he who is truthful to you in his love, and he is your friend in his advice and his admonishment.❞

The Meaning of al-Taṣfiyah

Al-taṣfiyah, according to Shaykh Muḥammad Nāṣir al-Dīn Al-Albānī, is “the work of returning to the pure Islām, [cleansed] of all that has entered into it [of things contrary to the Qurʾān and Sunnah].”

Conquer your desires

Imām Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allāh have mercy on him) said:

“مُخَالَفَةُ الْهَوَى تُورِثُ الْعَبْدَ قُوَّةً فِي بَدَنِهِ وَقَلْبِهِ وَلِسَانِهِ وَقَالَ بَعْضُ السَّلَفِ الْغَالِبُ لِهَوَاهُ أَشَدُّ مِنْ الَّذِي يَفْتَحُ الْمَدِينَةَ وَحْدَهُ

"Opposing desires will allow the servant to acquire strength in his body, his heart, and his speech. Some of the righteous predecessors would say that conquering one’s desires needs more strength than one who could conquer a city by himself.”

Ibn al-Qayyim on the Benefits of Vinegar
Topics: Vinegar • Condiments

Ibn al-Qayyim said in "the Prophetic Medicine" regarding vinegar:

Muslim relates in his Saheeh, from Jaabir bin Abdullaah that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) asked his family for a condiment and they replied, "We do not have anything but vinegar". So he called for it and began to eat, saying, "How good a condiment is vinegar". In Sunan Ibn Maajah, from Umm Sa'd (radiallaahu anhaa), from the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam), "What an excellent condiment is vinegar. O Allaah bless vinegar, for it used to be the condiment of the Prophets before me. No house will be destitute that has vinegar."

Vinegar is a combination of heat andcold, of which the latter is predominant. It is dry in the third degree, and has a strong dessicative power. It prevents matters from flowing down and refines the constitution.

Wine vinegar is beneficial for inflamed stomach, calms the yellow bile, and repels the harm of deadly drugs. It dissolves milk and blood when these have solidified in the interior. It is beneficial for the spleen, tans the stomach, restricts the belly, quenches thirst, and prevents incipientinflammation. It helps the digestion, opposes phlegm, refines thick foods and thins the blood. When drunk withsalt, it is beneficial for one who has eaten deadly fungus.

When made into a broth, it dislodges the leech which has attached itself to the root of the palate. When warmed and used as a mouth rinse, it is beneficial for toothache and strengthens the gums.

It is beneficial for whitlow (pus-filled blisters) when applied as an embrocation, and for itching, hotinflammation, and burns. It increases the appetite, sweetens the stomach, and is good for young people, and in the summer for the inhabitants of warm lands.

Why Aren't You publicly Retracting When You Have To?

Statements from the salaf regarding ahlul bidah

Ibn Abbaas (d. 68H) said: "Indeed the most detestable of things to Allaah are the innovations." Reported by al-Bayhaqee in as-Sunan al-Kubraa (4/316)

Ibn Umar (d. 84H) said: "Every innovation is misguidance, even if the people see it as something good." Reported by Abu Shaamah (no. 39)

Sufyaan ath-Thawree (d. 161H) said:"Innovation is more beloved to Iblees than sin, since a sin may be repented from but innovation is not repented from." Reported by al-Laalikaa'ee (no. 238)

Al-Fudayl bin 'Iyaad (d. 187H) said: "I met the best of people, all of them people of the Sunnah and they used to forbid from accompanying the people of innovation." Reported by al-Laalikaa'ee (no.267)

Al-Hasan al-Basree (d. 110H) said: "Do not sit with the people of innovation and desires, nor argue with them, nor listen to them." Reported by ad-Daarimee in his Sunan (1/121)

Ibraaheem bin Maysarah (d.132H) said: "Whoever honours an innovator has aided in the destruction of Islam." Reported by al-Laalikaa'ee (1/139).

Sufyaan ath-Thawree (d. 161H) said: "Whoever listens to an innovator has left the protection of Allaah and is entrusted with the innovation." Reported by Abu Nu'aym in al-Hilyah (7/26) and Ibn Battah (no.444).

Imaam Maalik (d. 179H) said: "How evil are the people of innovation, we do no give them salaam." Reported by al-Baghawee in Sharh us-Sunnah (1/234).

Imaam ash-Shaafi'ee (d. 204H) said: "That a person meets Allaah with every sin except Shirk is better than meeting Him upon any one of the innovated beliefs." Reported by al-Bayhaqee in al-I'tiqaad (p.158)

Al-Fudayl bin 'Iyaad (d. 187H) said: "Whoever sits with a person of innovation, then beware of him and whoever sits with a person of innovation has not been given wisdom. I love that there was fort of iron between me and a person of innovation. That I eat with a Jew and a Christian is more beloved to me than that I eat with a person of innovation." Reported by al-Laalikaa'ee (no.1149)

Al-Layth bin Sa'd (d. 175H) said: "If I saw a person of desires (i.e. innovations) walking upon the water I would not accept from him." So Imaam as-Shaafi'ee then said: "He (al-Layth) has fallen short. If I saw him walking in the air I would not accept from him." Reported by as-Suyooti in al-Amr bil 'Ittibaa wan-Nahee anil Ibtidaa'.

Al-Fudayl bin 'Iyaad said: "If a man comes to a person to consult him and he directs him to an innovator, then he has made a deception of Islaam. Beware of going to a person of innovation for they divert [people] from the truth." Sharh Usool ul-I'tiqaad of al-Laalikaa'ee
Testing Individuals with the Modern Day Scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah

Shaykh Jamaal Ibn Furayhaan al-Haarithee said,
“And we say today without any hesitation: When you see a man loving and praising Ibn Baaz (d.1420H) and al-Albaanee (d.1420H) and al-’Uthaymeen (d.1421H) and al-Fawzaan and al-Luhaydaan and Amaan al-Jaamee (d.1417H) and Rabee’ al-Madkhalee and al-Waadi’ee (d.1421H) and an-Najmee (d.1429H) and Zayd al-Madkhalee and al-Burjiss (d.1425H) and ’Abdul-’Azeez aalush-Shaykh and Saalih aalush-Shaykh and their likes, then know that he is a person of the Sunnah, if Allaah so wills. And when you see someone who differentiates between this and that, from those whom we have mentioned, then know that he is not upon the path. And Allaah knows best.”

WEARING COLOURED OR EMBROIDERED ABAYAS
HOME / CLOTHING / WEARING COLOURED OR EMBROIDERED ABAYAS
Question:
What is the ruling on wearing coloured and embroidered abayas? Should the abayas start from the head instead of the shoulder? This type of head abaya is not common in India and I might draw attention by wearing it. Should I discard all my coloured and embroidered abayas and buy plain black ones? Jaazak Allahu khayran.

Zaynab El-Kateb:
You can wear a colored Abaya if it is one color but not mixed colors for zeina. Abayas that are embroidered are Zeina (beautification), so you should not wear them in front of non mahram.
