We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Research Assistant or Postdoctoral Researcher to join our research team in a cutting-edge project focused on CO₂ coreflooding experiments.
This role will involve working on innovative microbubble CO₂ injection, SCAL analyses, and advanced imaging techniques such as CT-Scan, Micro-CT, and NMR within a state-of-the-art subsurface energy lab.
🔧 Key responsibilities:
Conduct coreflooding experiments with a focus on CO₂ injection and characterisation.
Perform Special Core Analysis (SCAL), including drainage/imbibition cycles.
Utilise imaging equipment (CT, micro-CT, and NMR) to assess fluid flow and saturation profiles.
Process and analyse experimental data, contributing to high-impact research outputs.
🧠 Ideal candidate:
A background in petroleum engineering, geoscience, chemical engineering, or a related field.
Experience with SCAL, coreflooding, and fluid characterisation techniques.
Hands-on experience with CT-Scan, Micro-CT, and/or NMR coreflooding techniques.
Knowledge of microbubble or enhanced gas injection techniques is a strong plus.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and analytical skills.
Must have current work rights in Australia.

Project Context

The project is part of the HARNESS MSCA Doctoral Network and explores digital identity, privacy, and data governance. The focus lies on the ethical and political implications of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and its compatibility with EU digital policy, particularly European Data Spaces. The candidate will conduct conceptual analysis, foresight methodology, and anticipatory ethical framework development.



Doctoral Research Objectives
1. Analyze differing concepts of SSI (EU policy, academia, tech industry, activism)
2. Investigate political/moral theories behind SSI (e.g., libertarian, kantian, republican)
3. Conduct foresight analysis on technological trends and risks to SSI
4. Assess compatibility between SSI and data sovereignty frameworks
5. Build a normative framework to resolve tensions between personal and political data control

Possible Secondments:
Rathenau Institute (NL) – Societal impact (remote, 3 months)
Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) – FAIR data processing ethics (6 months)
