A postdoctoral position in the area of data-driven control is available at the Institute of Engineering and Technology, University of Groningen, the Netherlands, for a period of 12 months, extendible to another 12 months. The candidate will work in the research group of Claudio De Persis.

The position is embedded within the project Digital Twin (https://lnkd.in/egmwv4Aj) financed by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). The main goal of the subproject the candidate will be involved in is to develop and exploit methods for autonomous controller tuning, adaptation and reconfiguration, and performance optimization using data-enriched models. Envisioned specific tasks within the subproject are: the development of data-driven learning (supervisory) control techniques, their possible extension to large-scale distributed settings and their proof-of-concept application to the use case of an industrial partner.

Applicants should have:
- a PhD degree from a well-recognized university;
- an inclination for rigorous mathematical investigation with a solid background in control theory and in one or more of the following: machine learning, system identification, optimization.

I am looking for motivated postdoctoral and Ph.D. researchers to join my group in the Department of Automotive Engineering at Clemson University, Greenville, South Carolina, USA. The research focus will be metal additive manufacturing and advanced materials synthesis. The positions are fully funded.

Qualified candidates should have experimental experience in metal additive manufacturing or a background in Materials Science or Computer Science. Competitive candidates are expected to have some of the following experience and knowledge: 1) Programming skills in C/C++, Python, Matlab, or other languages, as well as MPI parallel computing; 2) Microstructure predictive capabilities in phase-field, cellular automata, or Monte Carlo modeling; 3) Solid mechanics simulation experience in CPFEM; 4) AI and machine learning related to processes optimization or materials design; 5) Thermodynamics and kinetics of materials, CALPHAD calculation; 6) Better to have experience in advanced characterization (e.g., TEM, EBSD, SEM, XRD); 7) Good at English communication and writing.
