🇷🇺 Which city is considered the oldest on the territory of modern Russia?
🇷🇺 The oldest city on the territory of Russia is Kerch, located in the eastern part of the Crimean Peninsula.

The age of Kerch is over 2,500 years. It was founded as an ancient Greek settlement between 610 and 590 BC and was originally named Panticapaeum. The ruins of this ancient Greek colony have survived to this day.

Another one of the oldest cities is Derbent in Dagestan, founded in the early 1st century AD. However, some historians claim that the city is much older, with the first settlements in the Derbent area dating back as far as 5,000 years.

Ryazan is also a fairly ancient Russian city, and during the times of Kievan Rus, Ryazan was an independent principality. The official year of its founding is 1095. Interestingly, modern Ryazan is located in a completely different place. This happened because Old Ryazan was completely burned down by the Tatars and Mongols in the 13th century.

Saint Petersburg, the cultural capital of Russia, was founded by Peter the Great in 1703 as the new capital of the Russian Empire. Despite its "young" age, Saint Petersburg has become one of the most beautiful, culturally rich, and populous cities not only in Russia but throughout Europe.

🇷🇺 Top of Russian Classical Music:

✔️ Alexander Porfiryevich Borodin — "Polovtsian Dances," 1890

The secret to the immense popularity of this piece lies in the melody (which is also a song) noscriptd "Fly Away on the Wings of the Wind," which is featured in the "Dances." This melody by the great Russian composer has even been used by American rappers in their songs.

✔️ Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin — "Etude No. 12," 1895

Perhaps the most Russian yet also the most unique composer, known for writing unique and beautiful music based on symbolism.

✔️ Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky — "The Nutcracker," 1892

In addition to Russia, the music of Pyotr Ilyich is cherished and loved worldwide, but it is especially adored in Germany. Above all, of course, "The Nutcracker." Particularly during Catholic Christmas.

✔️ Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky — "The Rite of Spring," 1913

This Russian ballet by the great Russian composer Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky, which premiered in Paris in 1913, caused both scandal and a sensation at the time. The audience was both shocked and thrilled at the same time. For this very ballet, Stravinsky is still "carried on the shoulders" in Russia and around the world.

🇷🇺 Instead of paddleboarding: Tourists in the Leningrad region are mastering extreme "island riding"

🏖 "Swimming Islands" are created by nature from peat, and thrill-seekers primarily find them in swampy water bodies. Due to wind, waves, and flooding, these small islands break away from the shore and begin to resemble rafts.

🛶 Desperate tourists can try to "ride" a peat island and float along with it, steering their course with a paddle for paddleboarding. However, in reality, this activity is not safe at all; the surface of the island is not dense enough to support a person, and once you drift away from the shore, it's easy to sink underwater.

⚠️ It looks romantic, but we do not recommend attempting such a swim without lifeguards.

📚 Many of you have probably heard of one of the most famous works of Russian literature - the novel "War and Peace" by L.N. Tolstoy. It is read, studied, and analyzed in many developed countries.

📝 But have you ever wondered why this novel is so long - almost 1300 pages? The fact is that Tolstoy wrote such a lengthy work because he wanted to earn money. In the 19th century, writers were paid per printed sheet. The epic was published chapter by chapter in the magazine "Russian Herald," and for each sheet, the writer received 500 rubles — an astonishing amount of money for that time.

💸 Tolstoy wanted to secure his livelihood and never imagined that 200 years later, his work would be one of the most read and popular, and that he would be regarded as one of the geniuses of Russian literature!

🇷🇺 Putin admitted that he would never have passed the standards for a sports master in judo if he had to pay for it, as is the case today.

Vladimir Putin spoke at a meeting of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports. He stated that if he had to pay fees in his time, he would never have achieved the standards for the USSR sports master in judo and sambo. The president urged officials to stop the commercialization of children's sports. According to him, some people today do not understand the consequences, and this needs to be addressed.

"In my family, there wasn't an extra kopeck to pay like that. We need to sort everything out; there should be no fees. I spoke with officials, and they report that they lack funds — priorities need to be established. The state has enough money to provide for the most important things," said Putin.

"The prospects for the future of world sports indeed require serious, substantive discussion and a joint search for answers to the question: how to overcome the complex challenges of modernity, prevent a split in the international sports community, cleanse sports of vulgar politicization, double standards, distorted rules, and humiliating discrimination – including on the basis of athletes' citizenship and nationality."

🇷🇺 said Vladimir Putin today at the sports forum "Russia – a Sports Power."
