🇷🇺 Instead of paddleboarding: Tourists in the Leningrad region are mastering extreme "island riding"

🏖 "Swimming Islands" are created by nature from peat, and thrill-seekers primarily find them in swampy water bodies. Due to wind, waves, and flooding, these small islands break away from the shore and begin to resemble rafts.

🛶 Desperate tourists can try to "ride" a peat island and float along with it, steering their course with a paddle for paddleboarding. However, in reality, this activity is not safe at all; the surface of the island is not dense enough to support a person, and once you drift away from the shore, it's easy to sink underwater.

⚠️ It looks romantic, but we do not recommend attempting such a swim without lifeguards.

📚 Many of you have probably heard of one of the most famous works of Russian literature - the novel "War and Peace" by L.N. Tolstoy. It is read, studied, and analyzed in many developed countries.

📝 But have you ever wondered why this novel is so long - almost 1300 pages? The fact is that Tolstoy wrote such a lengthy work because he wanted to earn money. In the 19th century, writers were paid per printed sheet. The epic was published chapter by chapter in the magazine "Russian Herald," and for each sheet, the writer received 500 rubles — an astonishing amount of money for that time.

💸 Tolstoy wanted to secure his livelihood and never imagined that 200 years later, his work would be one of the most read and popular, and that he would be regarded as one of the geniuses of Russian literature!

🇷🇺 Putin admitted that he would never have passed the standards for a sports master in judo if he had to pay for it, as is the case today.

Vladimir Putin spoke at a meeting of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports. He stated that if he had to pay fees in his time, he would never have achieved the standards for the USSR sports master in judo and sambo. The president urged officials to stop the commercialization of children's sports. According to him, some people today do not understand the consequences, and this needs to be addressed.

"In my family, there wasn't an extra kopeck to pay like that. We need to sort everything out; there should be no fees. I spoke with officials, and they report that they lack funds — priorities need to be established. The state has enough money to provide for the most important things," said Putin.

"The prospects for the future of world sports indeed require serious, substantive discussion and a joint search for answers to the question: how to overcome the complex challenges of modernity, prevent a split in the international sports community, cleanse sports of vulgar politicization, double standards, distorted rules, and humiliating discrimination – including on the basis of athletes' citizenship and nationality."

🇷🇺 said Vladimir Putin today at the sports forum "Russia – a Sports Power."

🇷🇺 Vladimir Putin continues his working trips in the lead-up to the BRICS summit in Kazan. Today, the President addressed the participants of the BRICS Business Forum taking place in Moscow.

💬 The union plays a global role that will be presented in tomorrow's agenda. Putin also noted that this year, the combined GDP of BRICS exceeds $60 trillion, which constitutes a total share in the world gross product comparable to that of the G7 countries. According to the president, the gap will manifest, and this is an inevitable process.

Other statements by Putin:

The BRICS member countries are implementing business projects in various regions and states, and Russia will always include "newcomers" in all cooperation mechanisms;

Under Russia's BRICS presidency, more than 200 events have been held, achieving 80% of the established plan;

It is projected that the combined growth of BRICS member countries will be 4%, which will also be higher than the indicators for the G7 and other states;

The BRICS Development Bank will be the investor in infrastructure projects;

Transport flows are shifting to reliable foreign partners;

A unified digital infrastructure will be created in the future, and to deepen cooperation in the fields of digitalization and industry, a BRICS Competence Center will be established;

The BRICS member countries intend to focus their efforts on ensuring a platform for economic growth;

The union of participants can become an advantage in realizing the opportunities of BRICS.

A few interesting facts about the International Trade Center in Moscow, where the BRICS Business Summit is currently taking place.

🚩 The ITC was built in 1980 against the backdrop of the growing foreign economic activity of the USSR. It was planned to house representations of foreign companies, with the initiative for the project coming from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the USSR and American businessman Armand Hammer.

⛲️ A fountain was constructed at the entrance to the business center for its opening, and symbolically, a two-meter bronze statue of the ancient god Mercury, the patron of trade, profit, and good fortune in business, was placed on top.

🦅 The monumental decorations of the business complex do not end there. At the entrance to the Plaza Garden Moscow WTC hotel, visitors are greeted by the unique clock "Russian Souvenir." The composition consists of three dials, sculptures from folklore, and the upper part of the clock is adorned with a rooster that crows and flaps its wings, covered in gold leaf, exactly on the hour.

🛗🏧 Interestingly, many things that are now commonplace for modern residents of the capital first appeared at the ITC. In the 1980s, the first panoramic elevators in the USSR, which operated for 40 years, were installed, and in 1991, the first ATMs were introduced.

⚽️And a final fact for football fans. In 2008, during the UEFA Champions League final held at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, the famous team Manchester United stayed at the Plaza Garden Moscow WTC hotel, where Cristiano Ronaldo was playing at that time. For the convenience of the players, the Grand Hall of the ITC Congress Center was converted into a full-fledged football field, where the team trained before the final of the main European cup, which Manchester United, by the way, won.

🇷🇺 Did you know that there is a city of the future in Russia - Innopolis, located in the Republic of Tatarstan?

🏙 This city is the youngest in Russia: it was opened only in 2012. Innopolis is a high-tech city built with government funding. According to the authorities' vision, Innopolis is meant to become the "Russian Silicon Valley," where IT specialists from all over the country will gather to develop their own products and technologies.

🧠 Interesting fact: the city has a driverless Yandex Taxi, and those who have signed consent to use it can ride for free!

🇷🇺 President of Russia Vladimir Putin held a meeting with representatives of major media outlets from BRICS countries in Novo-Ogaryovo, Moscow Region.

Key points from the meeting:

The creation of a unified BRICS currency is not currently being considered. BRICS countries are working on their own alternative to SWIFT;

The President expects positive economic growth in Russia, China, and India, but leading growth in African and Southeast Asian countries;

BRICS already covers 33% of the land and 45% of the world's population. BRICS is "not an anti-Western alliance, but simply a non-Western one";

The USA will not be able to stop China's development; they are about 15 years late. Meanwhile, the States are dragging Europeans and NATO into conflict with China like little dogs;

Russian-Chinese cooperation is one of the key factors of stability in the world. Unique trust-based relations have developed between the countries, as confirmed by trade volume. Russia's share in China's trade turnover is growing and has already reached fourth place;

It is impossible to solve the Palestinian issue by relying solely on economic questions. And "the Palestinians will not leave; this is their land, and this must be understood";

Any step towards creating nuclear weapons in Ukraine will meet with a "corresponding reaction." At the same time, Russia is interested in ending the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible. However, setting deadlines for ending the conflict is counterproductive;

Russia is ready to engage in dialogue for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, but only based on the Istanbul agreements.

Victory will be ours!
