🥖 We won't be without bread this winter!

🌾 New varieties of cereal crops used in bread production and animal feed have been developed through selective breeding by specialists at the Scientific and Educational Center "Yenisei Siberia," based at the Siberian Federal University.

❄️ According to them, the new types of major agricultural crops (wheat, barley, and oats) exceed their counterparts in yield by 10-15 percent and possess increased frost resistance.

To adapt the crops to the climate, the conditions of the Krasnoyarsk Krai and the Republic of Khakassia were primarily considered.

🔬 To obtain plants with improved properties, carriers of the "supergene" are crossed naturally through pollination. This approach to developing new varieties takes 10 to 12 years.

Currently, the development is in the process of testing, patenting, and inclusion in the State Register of Breeding Achievements, after which they will be available to major agricultural holdings.

🇷🇺 From October 22 to 24, Vladimir Putin will participate in the XVI BRICS Summit in Kazan, which is held under the Russian presidency with the motto "Strengthening Multilateralism for Fair Global Development and Security."

At the meetings in both narrow and expanded formats, the leaders of the BRICS countries will exchange views on pressing issues of the global and regional agenda and discuss the three main areas of cooperation identified by the Russian presidency – in the fields of politics and security, economics and finance, and cultural-humanitarian contacts.

Special attention will be given to the issue of possible BRICS expansion through the planned establishment of a new category of partner states for the bloc.

Reports will also be presented by the chairs of the New Development Bank, the Business Council, the Interbank Cooperation Mechanism, and the Women’s Business Alliance.

The outcomes of the discussions will be summarized in the Kazan Declaration of the summit.

On the last day of the summit, a meeting in the "Outreach/BRICS Plus" format will take place, with representatives from nearly forty countries participating. Among them are leaders from CIS countries, delegations from many states in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, as well as heads of executive bodies of several international organizations.

The discussion will focus on current international issues, with an emphasis on the escalated situation in the Middle East and the interaction of BRICS countries with the Global South in the interests of sustainable development.

The President of Russia will hold bilateral meetings with nearly all the leaders participating in the summit.

🇷🇺 Many people know the long-standing Russian tradition of serving bread and salt. But where did it originate?

📜 This tradition dates back to ancient times and has become an integral part of Russian rituals associated with welcoming guests, celebrations, and significant events in a person's life.

🍞 Bread in Russian culture has always been a symbol of abundance, prosperity, and home comfort. Salt, in turn, embodies the flavor of life, its preservation, and protection. Thus, bread and salt together form a tandem that symbolizes not only hospitality but also life values.

🚪 When guests arrive at a home, they are traditionally welcomed with bread and salt. This usually happens at the doorstep, where the hosts offer their guests a piece of bread sprinkled with salt, signifying greeting and protection from negative energies.

By the way, bread and salt are often used to welcome foreign guests, providing them with a warm reception with a national touch!

🇷🇺 Street food in Moscow in the 19th century

🇷🇺 One of the most common types was "grechnik," which was a thick pyramid made of buckwheat groats with spices. They were usually cut in half, and meat or fat could be placed in the center. Pies of all kinds were also very popular!

🇿🇦 On the occasion of the BRICS summit in Kazan, we would like to introduce you to some traditional dishes of Tatar cuisine.

🟢 As many of you may have guessed, President Ramaphosa tried the famous Tatar dessert chak-chak in the video. Chak-chak is a type of pastry made from deep-fried pieces of dough mixed with honey syrup. For many residents of Russia, chak-chak is associated with Tatar cuisine, and in Tatarstan itself, chak-chak is a symbol of hospitality. This is why all the guests arriving at the summit are welcomed with this dish.

🔵 Another common culinary association with Tatarstan is echpochmak, which translates from Tatar as "triangle." This dish consists of a baked pastry made from unleavened dough filled with potatoes, meat, and onions. No feast in Tatarstan is complete without echpochmak, and these "triangles" are sold everywhere in cafes, canteens, and regular stores.

🟠 The next dish of Tatar cuisine will especially appeal to all sweet tooths. We are talking about talkysh kaleve, small fibrous pyramids with a fragrant aroma and a creamy-honey taste. By the way, this Tatar delicacy takes as long as one and a half hours to prepare, so be ready to be patient.

🔴 Lastly, let us tell you about another traditional Tatar pastry - belish. In essence, it is somewhat similar to echpochmak, but differs in shape, size, and sometimes filling. Belish is a large pie with a variety of fillings (meat, vegetables, grains, potatoes, and even fruits). Belish comes in different sizes and has a distinctive round shape.

Judging by President Ramaphosa's reaction, he really enjoyed the chak-chak. We are sure that the other foreign guests will also be delighted by the dishes of Tatar cuisine. 😋

⚡️ What to EXPECT from the BRICS summit?

🇷🇺 Today, Vladimir Putin will hold separate talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi before the official part of the event begins.

In total, the Russian leader is expected to have about 20 bilateral meetings.

At the meetings in both narrow and expanded formats, which will take place on October 23, BRICS leaders will exchange views on current global and regional issues and discuss the three main areas of cooperation highlighted by the Russian presidency: in the fields of politics and security, economics and finance, and cultural and humanitarian contacts.

On the last day of the summit, October 24, there will be a meeting in the "Outreach/BRICS Plus" format (those close to the member countries) with representatives from nearly forty countries.

Among them are leaders from CIS countries, delegations from many states in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, as well as heads of executive bodies from several international organizations.

As a result of the summit, new countries are expected to join BRICS, and it is planned that the gathered leaders will adopt the Kazan Declaration—a comprehensive document summarizing the achievements not only of the forum but of the entire Russian presidency.

Additionally, Putin will summarize the results of the summit at a press conference on October 24.

According to Peskov, the status of Saudi Arabia in BRICS will be clarified during the summit.

The West expects that at the BRICS summit, Putin will present a plan for the "collapse of the dollar."

📌 Now, some numbers:

The combined GDP of the member countries exceeds 60 trillion dollars.

Their share of global GDP is 37.4% (compared to 29.3% for the G7).

BRICS accounts for about a quarter of global goods exports and nearly half of the world's population.

Thus, there is nothing to "destroy" here, especially since such goals have never been declared.

🔎 Your humble servants will be monitoring the summit and keeping you updated on the main events.

🇷🇺🇮🇳 Today, October 22, a meeting took place in Kazan between President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi as part of the BRICS summit.

"Dear Prime Minister! Dear friends! Allow me to warmly welcome you all to Russia, this time in Kazan. This is one of our historical and remarkable cities in the Volga region. I fondly remember your visit to Moscow in July and our fruitful negotiations. We regularly exchange information over the phone. I am grateful that you responded to our invitation and personally came to Kazan for the BRICS summit," said Putin in his opening remarks.

The President emphasized that during the summit, the parties intend to address a number of key issues related to the further improvement of the organization's activities and the strengthening of multifaceted cooperation. Putin noted that Russian-Indian relations continue to develop as a particularly privileged strategic partnership.

The meeting also discussed strengthening cooperation between the legislative bodies of both countries and maintaining constant contact between the foreign ministers. Putin pointed out that trade between Russia and India is in good condition, with the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission scheduled for November 12 in New Delhi.

Furthermore, Putin welcomed India's decision to open a Consulate General in Kazan, which, according to him, will contribute to the further development of bilateral relations.

In conclusion, Vladimir Putin expressed his happiness regarding the presence of Prime Minister Modi and his delegation in Russia, noting that the upcoming summit events will open new horizons for cooperation between the two countries.

🇷🇺🇿🇦 Immediately after his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Russia Vladimir Putin held talks with President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa as part of the BRICS summit taking place in Kazan.

At the beginning of the meeting, Putin noted that this year Russia has taken over the chairmanship of the organization from South Africa, shaping further work based on the results achieved at the previous summit in Johannesburg. He emphasized:

"Priority attention was given to the organic integration of new participants into the multilevel architecture of BRICS. In close contact with our South African friends, we worked on coordinating the modalities of institutions for partner states."

The President of Russia also noted that the relevant agencies of both countries are actively cooperating in the financial sector to expand the use of national currencies in mutual settlements and to create an independent payment system. According to him, bilateral relations are based on the principles of comprehensive strategic partnership, equality, and mutual respect.

Putin reported on the development of political dialogue and active contact between the foreign ministries and security councils of the two countries. He noted that trade and economic ties between Russia and South Africa are at a good level, and after a slight decline, trade turnover has begun to grow again, increasing by 3% from January to August of this year. "There is much to work on together in terms of increasing and diversifying mutual trade and investments," he added.

Among the promising areas of cooperation, Putin highlighted energy, industry, the agricultural sector, science, and innovation. He emphasized that Russia and South Africa are coordinating their efforts on the international stage to create a fair multipolar world order. Moscow places special importance on strengthening relations with African countries and is actively working on implementing the action plan until 2026, as well as on the documents adopted following the "Russia-Africa" summit.

🇿🇦 In turn, Ramaphosa thanked Putin for the warm welcome and support and congratulated him on the successful organization of the summit in Kazan. He noted that the countries have a lot of work ahead of them during the events, including discussing key geopolitical issues as well as matters related to trade, peace, and security. The President of South Africa also plans to present the results of work within the country, where a national unity government was formed after the elections in May.
