Deciphering the Maya Script

📚 Historian and linguist Yuri Knorosov, intrigued by the Maya language, set out to decipher it.

🔖 The task seemed nearly impossible: there were no translated texts to help understand the meanings of the hieroglyphs.

✍️ To achieve this, Knorosov used an alphabet of 29 hieroglyphs recorded in the 16th century by the monk Diego de Landa and established that each symbol corresponds to a syllable. He succeeded in translating the surviving manunoscripts.

🗓 The first results were presented by the historian in 1952. Subsequently, the methodology created by Knorosov for deciphering ancient writing systems allowed for the understanding of other writing systems as well.

🇷🇺 Russia is not satisfied with Trump's proposal to postpone Ukraine's NATO membership for 20 years and to introduce European and British peacekeepers, said Sergey Lavrov.
