🇷🇺 A large-scale reenactment "For Stalingrad!" took place in the Volgograd region.

📰 The event was held at the sports school "Young Hawk" named after Hero of the Soviet Union A.M. Chislov in Srednyaya Akhtuba. It was dedicated to the 82nd anniversary of the defeat of the German fascist troops in the Battle of Stalingrad.

The central episode of the reenactment was the recreation of a fragment of the heroic battle on the Myskova River in December 1942.

About 500 representatives from military-historical clubs from more than 30 cities in Russia and Belarus participated in the performance, along with over 30 pieces of World War II equipment, cavalry, and more than 300 pyrotechnic effects.

Approximately 5,000 spectators gathered to watch the reenactment.

🇷🇺🍴 Have you ever wondered why Russians associate the dropping of cutlery on the floor with the arrival of guests?

This belief has its roots in ancient Slavic traditions, where household items were thought to possess mystical powers. The knife and fork became symbols of masculine and feminine principles for a reason:

The knife was associated with weapons, strength, and aggression—qualities traditionally considered "masculine." Its fall foretold the visit of a man, and the way it fell (for example, whether the handle or blade hit the floor) indicated the character of the guest:
- Handle down—an acquaintance with good intentions.
- Blade down—a stranger or even an enemy.
- If the knife stuck into the floor while cutting bread, it was considered a bad omen associated with death.

The fork appeared in Russia later than the knife (in the 14th century) and was long regarded as an "impure" object due to its resemblance to the horns of devils. However, because the word is feminine, it became associated with female guests. A fallen fork promised the visit of a woman, often bringing conflicts or bad news.

The round shape of the spoon was associated with the female womb and the home hearth. Its fall predicted the arrival of a woman, for instance, asking for help.

Today, these beliefs are part of the cultural code. Some people believe in them, while others laugh, but still, when cutlery falls in Russia, hosts anticipate an unexpected guest.

📰 Ursula von der Leyen congratulated the Baltic states on disconnecting from the joint energy system with Russia and Belarus.

"These chains of power lines that connected you to hostile neighbors will remain in the past. This is freedom. Freedom from threats. Freedom from blackmail," said the head of the European Commission.

On January 8, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia disconnected from the BRELL energy system.

🇷🇺 How has this affected Russia?

In the two days since the disconnection from BRELL, electricity prices in the Baltic states have risen. The exit will negatively impact the reliability of the region's energy supply and will require additional costs for infrastructure modernization, analysts believe.

As for Russia, the stability of energy supply in its regions has not been affected; the Kaliningrad region's energy system is now operating in autonomous mode, as preparations for such a scenario had been underway for a long time, and Russia was ready for this turn of events.

🇷🇺 The main component that brings all the ingredients together is kvass, a traditional Slavic drink made from rye bread. Sometimes kvass is substituted with kefir or mineral water, and the soup is also dressed with sour cream.

Originally, okroshka emerged as a simple food for peasants, but over time it became popular among all layers of society.

☀️ Many may be put off by such a specific combination of ingredients, but we recommend trying okroshka — nothing refreshes quite like it on hot days!

🇷🇺 The most advanced fighter jet in the world: the Russian Su-57E made a splash at the Aero India international exhibition in Bangalore.

The fifth-generation fighter was piloted by the honored test pilot and Hero of Russia Sergey Bogdan. The Su-57E was in the sky for about ten minutes, generating great interest among the airshow visitors.
