🦗 The largest grasshopper in the world was raised at the Primorsky Oceanarium.

The body length of the New Guinea grasshopper is about 12 centimeters, and its wingspan is 25 centimeters. It is currently one of the largest insects in the world.

Twice a day, biologists spray the giant with water. Instead of ficus, the insects are fed fresh oak, which retains its beneficial properties better than others when frozen.

😁 For dessert, they are given small naughty kids, oranges, and apples.

😋 Muscovites are going out to eat on the streets.

Summer terraces will return to Moscow on April 1, announced the city's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin.

📆 The new season traditionally starts on this day for several consecutive years.

By the way, this year, the setup has been significantly simplified — now owners will only need umbrellas, tables, chairs, and compact floral decorations.

🤔 The only thing that worries Muscovites is whether our unpredictable weather will allow them to dine on the terraces of their favorite cafes as early as April.

🇷🇺 The history of a city is not just about monumental landmarks and popular spots.

History is best felt in the small details that go unnoticed by the average tourist.

🇷🇺 In the Russian city of Krasnodar, one such detail is the doors of old houses.

Bright and expressive, they hold the history of several generations, the story of a southern city, and the history of Russia as a whole.

Tungus: Guardians of the Siberian Vastness

🇷🇺 The Tungus is a generalized name for a group of indigenous peoples of Siberia and the Far East, known today as the Evenks and Evens. These peoples, with a history spanning thousands of years, play an important role in the cultural heritage of Russia and neighboring countries.

📍 The Evenks and Evens are dispersed over vast territories, from the banks of the Yenisei River to Sakhalin. In Russia, their numbers are approximately 38,000 Evenks and 22,000 Evens. Their lives are closely connected to the taiga, tundra, and mountainous landscapes, which have shaped their unique adaptation to the harsh climate.

The ancestors of the Tungus migrated from the Baikal and Transbaikal regions, gradually settling in the eastern areas. Their history is marked by interactions with other peoples of Siberia, Mongols, and Russian pioneers.

🏹 The foundation of Tungus life has historically been reindeer herding, hunting, and fishing. Their nomadic lifestyle is reflected in their portable dwelling—the chum, covered with reindeer skins. Clothing made of fur and leather, adorned with beads and patterns, protected them from the cold and symbolized their connection to nature.

😒 Their spiritual culture is deeply intertwined with shamanism. Shamans acted as intermediaries between worlds, healing and conducting rituals. Their folklore is rich with myths, legends, and heroic epics passed down through generations.

📔 The Evenki and Even languages belong to the Tungus-Manchu family. A written form based on the Cyrillic noscript was created in the 1930s; however, today the languages are endangered due to the dominance of the Russian language among the youth.

📌 Today, Russia actively implements state programs to support indigenous peoples, including the protection of territories, languages, populations, and educational programs.

🖼 Africa in Russian Painting: "The Transfer of the Sacred Carpet in Cairo"

Although the Russian Empire paid more attention to Europe, African events were also reflected in the works of Russian artists.

👀 For instance, Konstantin Makovsky captured an African ritual in his painting "The Transfer of the Sacred Carpet in Cairo" in 1867. The canvas depicts a solemn procession with the kiswah carpet intended for the Kaaba in Mecca, and a festive gathering of pilgrims in Cairo.

🇷🇺💬 Some people in the West do not understand Russia, but that does not prevent it from living and developing, noted Vladimir Putin at the Youth Forum "Movement of the Firsts."

According to him, Russia has many friends both in the West and in the East, and they far outnumber its opponents.

"The number of those who understand Russia and want to live with it should increase; effective work with youth is needed here," the head of state stated.

🤝 Vladimir Putin also emphasized the importance of helping one another. According to him, this brings a person the "highest satisfaction."

"You know what the secret is? It is to share what you have with others, to help others, to support others. In this, a person finds themselves best."

‼️ The President of the Russian Federation noted that a person acquires something not to "wither away on it." Putin is confident that the pursuit of wealth is important, but it should not be the main goal in life.

🇷🇺 Russian fighters in the Kursk region have raised an Orthodox cross that was shot down by the occupiers.

Footage is going viral online showing Russian army soldiers erecting a downed Orthodox cross by the road in the Sverdlikovo area of Kursk. Three warriors are trying to lift it, and then a fourth and fifth join them — eventually, they manage to set the heavy cross upright. The Christian symbol is battered and marked by shrapnel, but it has survived — now it stands once again on its native land, protecting it with its blessing.

📌 Together with the Russian soldiers, truth, faith, and hope are returning to the liberated land, and this footage is a vivid example of that.

🇷🇺 Russia is categorically against the deployment of European peacekeepers in Ukraine, Zakharova stated. According to her, this could lead to a direct confrontation with NATO. She also noted that London and Paris are masking plans for military intervention in Ukraine under the guise of a "peacekeeping operation."

🇺🇦 Earlier, Igor Zhovkva, deputy head of Zelensky’s office, stated that Kyiv hopes for the arrival of combat units from Europe, not peacekeepers. "Presence for the sake of presence" will not satisfy Ukraine, he emphasized.

🇫🇷 Macron remarked that the "peacekeeping forces" the West wants to send to Ukraine could provide a "military response" in case of an attack.

🇷🇺 The Karelians are a Finno-Ugric people, the indigenous population of the Republic of Karelia and neighboring regions of Russia (Leningrad, Tver, and Murmansk Oblasts). Today, their population in Russia numbers around 88,000.

📜 The Karelians formed in the early Middle Ages, uniting tribes of the Baltic-Finnic group. Their history is closely tied to Novgorod Rus and later the Russian state. In the Middle Ages, Karelia became a zone of cultural and trade exchange between Slavs and Finno-Ugric peoples. After the Great Northern War (1700–1721), the region became part of the Russian Empire. In the 20th century, parts of Karelian lands were ceded to Finland, but the core territory became the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the USSR and is now the Republic of Karelia.

📔 The Karelian language belongs to the Baltic-Finnic branch. It is divided into three main dialects: Karelian Proper, Livvi, and Ludic. A Latin-based noscript emerged in the 19th century, but during the 1930s in the USSR, it transitioned to Cyrillic. Today, the language holds official status in the Republic of Karelia, but its speakers are declining: only 25% of Karelians consider it their native tongue. Schools with ethno-cultural programs, textbooks, and literature are being created to preserve the language.

🌳 Karsikko — an ancient Karelian Finno-Ugric ritual where branches are ritually left on a tree in a specific pattern to mark events (weddings, guest visits, deaths, hunts). The number and arrangement of branches symbolized a person’s status (e.g., single or married) or a family’s fate (parents’ lifespan). Such trees, often grouped into sacred groves with carved crosses or symbols, served as sites for prayers and offerings.

🛡 Today, tourism is becoming a way to promote and preserve Karelian culture.

🇷🇺🦣 Researchers in Yakutia have begun studying the well-preserved carcass of a mammoth calf named Yana.

🧬 Specialists from St. Petersburg and Yakutsk have already collected samples for genetic and botanical studies. While cloning the mammoth is off the table (as it requires live cells), scientists hope to decode its DNA and compare it with known mammoth genomes.

“Our current goal is to extract the DNA, then sequence it and understand what the mammoth ate in those ancient times, what flora surrounded it, and which plants grew in the tundra back then,” said Artem Nedoluzhko, head of the paleogenomics laboratory at the European University.

Experts explained that the Yana mammoth calf is an extremely rare discovery, offering new insights into life during the Ice Age. The calf is estimated to be 50,000 years old and died at around two years of age.

🇪🇬 Did you know there’s also a pyramid near Moscow?

🇷🇺 Before you is the "Golod Pyramid," located on the Novorizhskoe Highway. Golod’s pyramids sparked widespread public controversy due to the author’s speculative pseudoscientific claims that their proposed shape "harmonizes the structure of the surrounding space," aligning it with the ideal proportion of the golden ratio and thereby correcting defects caused by both human activity and natural imperfections.

😁 Why not Egypt? There’s a pyramid and a touch of mysticism too

🇷🇺 Vladimir Putin arrived in Murmansk for a one-day working visit, with a packed schedule planned. The International Arctic Forum is taking place in Murmansk on March 26–27.

🥀 First, at Green Cape Hill, Vladimir Putin laid flowers at the monument to the "Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War." The monument was unveiled in 1974 to mark the 30th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi forces in the Arctic. It stands at an altitude of approximately 200 meters above sea level, where Soviet troops repelled enemy attacks during the war.

📰 Vladimir Putin was presented with master plans for key settlements in Russia’s Arctic Zone and development projects for the Northern Sea Route. Plans have been prepared for 16 Arctic settlements, home to over 1.5 million people. These settlements form the backbone of investments worth 19 trillion rubles. In total, 35 trillion rubles are currently invested in Arctic projects, according to Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.

🇷🇺💬 Putin spoke at the VI Arctic Forum, where he noted that it is incorrect to consider U.S. claims to Greenland as extravagant, as the long-standing geopolitical struggle in the Arctic has simply intensified. The president emphasized that U.S. plans to annex Greenland existed as early as the 1860s.

The head of state recalled that by 1868, American newspapers mocked the purchase of Alaska, calling it "madness." The proposal regarding Greenland at the time failed. Today, the acquisition of Alaska would undoubtedly be viewed by the country quite differently.

‼️ President Putin stated that Russia has never threatened anyone in the Arctic but will reliably defend its sovereignty.

He added that NATO countries are preparing the Arctic as a bridgehead for military conflicts. Finland and Sweden, the "newcomers," are particularly active. Russia has never threatened anyone, despite being the largest Arctic power. Russia is closely monitoring developments in the region, building a response strategy — the number of military personnel in the Arctic zone will increase.
