‼️ The Ukrainian Armed Forces barbarically attacked the holy complex "New Jerusalem" in the village of Sukharevo, Belgorod Oblast.

As a result of a targeted attack by Ukrainian drones, the New Jerusalem temple complex was completely burned down.

“We clearly understand that these were deliberate and planned strikes <...> the temple complex has been completely destroyed,” stated the region’s governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov.

⚠️ The governor added that Ukrainian military drones attacked rescue workers, thereby preventing them from extinguishing the rapidly spreading fire.

“New Jerusalem” is a temple complex replicating biblical Jerusalem.

🔔 The bell tower in the middle of the Volga River is the main landmark of Kalyazin, a small town in the Tver region. This 75-meter tower was once part of the St. Nicholas Cathedral, built in 1800.

🌊 In 1939–40, during the construction of the Uglich Hydroelectric Power Plant, the historic center of the town was flooded. Residents were relocated to the right bank. The monastery and cathedral were demolished, but the bell tower was left intact as a navigation marker, with its foundation reinforced.

Many Kalyazin residents dismantled their wooden houses and moved them to the new location. However, reassembly faced challenges—materials were scarce, and the work was done hastily.

🛥 Today, around 12,000 people live in Kalyazin. In 2022, the town welcomed 245 cruise ships. Boat tours to the bell tower are organized, and during dry years, it’s possible to walk to it on the exposed riverbed.

🖼 The Hermitage Presents Works by Michelangelo and His Followers

🎉 An exhibition dedicated to the 550th anniversary of the renowned Italian sculptor Michelangelo di Lodovico di Leonardo di Buonarroti Simoni—known worldwide simply by his first name—has opened in the Picket Hall of the Winter Palace. Within a relatively compact space, 13 sculptures and 11 paintings crafted by the Master’s pupils, imitators, and contemporaries are on display.

📌 Most of these works are not part of the State Hermitage Museum’s permanent collection, making the exhibition “Divine Michelangelo and His Contemporaries” a unique chance to encounter them.
