📚 Today, September 8th, Russia celebrates for the first time the Day of the Languages of the Peoples of Russia. The decision to establish this holiday was made by Presidential Decree No. 474 of July 11, 2025.

The holiday coincides with the birthday of Rasul Gamzatov, a Soviet poet, prose writer, publicist, public and political figure, and translator.

Russia boasts a diversity of peoples living within its territory and a vast number of languages they speak. The 193 ethnic groups residing in Russia use approximately 277 languages.

Meanwhile, 105 languages are used in the state education system, of which 24 are used as the language of instruction and 81 are taught as a subject.

Interestingly, the number of languages does not match the number of ethnic groups. This fact is explained by some peoples having two officially recognized languages. Such peoples include the Mari (Meadow and Mountain Mari), the Mordvins (Erzya and Moksha), and the Altai people. Effectively, they are related peoples united into one group.

It is also worth noting that some ethnic groups share a common language and are essentially parts of one people, such as the Karachays and Balkars, and the Kabardians and Circassians.

☺️ Russia firmly condemns the West's attempts to remove Milorad Dodik from power in Republika Srpska, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

🔬Vladimir Putin visited the laboratory complex of the Sirius University of Science and Technology

The complex was opened in September 2022. It is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and allows for solving a wide range of tasks related to the application of genetic technologies in pharmaceuticals, medicine, and agriculture.
