"Three years ago, in referendums in Donbass and Novorossiya, millions of our compatriots independently and freely determined their future. <...> They made the most important, fateful decision — to be with their Fatherland, with Russia, to return to the native family, a part of which they have always been," Putin said.

The Russian President added that today, Russian servicemen and commanders are protecting the choice made three years ago. Russian citizens are also collectively defending fundamental national interests, shared memory and values, the Russian language, traditions, culture, and faith, as well as the sacred right to honor the exploits of their ancestors.

Vladimir Putin noted that there are now many acute, pressing problems that are being actively addressed. Since 2022, over 23,500 different facilities have been built and repaired in Donbass and Novorossiya. The energy sector, communications, utilities, and transport systems are also being updated.

"On this holiday, in the year of the Defender of the Fatherland, I am addressing soldiers and officers, the true heroes of our time, with a special feeling. I thank you for your loyalty to the Motherland, for your military valor and courage, for every day of your difficult combat work," the President said.
