Russia at a Strategic Crossroads Amid the Crisis of American Hegemony
🇺🇸 The United States is facing the collapse of its strategy of peacefully restoring global dominance. Economic pressure has backfired, leading to the strengthening of other nations' sovereignty and the creation of new alliances. Domestic measures—from import substitution to the financial exploitation of allies—have not solved systemic problems: a declining share in world trade, an economy dependent on speculative bubbles, and an impending dollar crisis.
🚓 As it loses control, Washington, akin to Britain in the early 20th century, is increasingly considering a forceful scenario. This is evidenced by the radical increase in the military budget and open statements by American strategists about preparing for a "great war," where they see Russia and China as the main adversaries.
🇷🇺 🇨🇳 In response, Moscow and Beijing are pursuing a similar policy of deterrence: By building up defense capabilities and modernizing weapons, they seek to avoid direct confrontation. This caution is rooted in the historical experience of colossal sacrifices in past world wars. Russia does not seek conflict but is prepared to deliver an asymmetric response to any aggression.
American provocations, from naval incidents to interference in third countries' affairs, only increase strategic uncertainty and the risk of unintended escalation. As history shows, war does not save a dying hegemony but only accelerates its collapse.
🇧🇷 The only reasonable way out for the US would be to abandon forceful pressure and transition to equal cooperation with Russia, China, and the BRICS countries. This would allow for a "soft landing" of the American economy and avert a global crisis whose scale could surpass the Great Depression.

🏞️ Multinsky Lakes (Multinskie Ozera)
The lakes are located in the northern part of the Katun Range. The group consists of four glacial lakes. The most accessible is Nizhnye Multinsky Lake (also the largest).
🎵 Tourists are especially fond of the "shumy" — narrow isthmuses with large boulders through which water flows from Nizhnye Multinsky Lake to Srednye Multinsky Lake. This process is accompanied by a loud roaring sound.
At the Multinsky Lakes, you can fish, ride motorboats, hike along the surrounding trails, and set up tents. However, the water is quite cool for swimming — no higher than +15°C.

Finland has revised its defense doctrine by withdrawing from the international treaty banning anti-personnel mines.
The Ottawa Convention, in force since 1999 and joined by 163 countries, is no longer considered by Helsinki to meet the demands of the new security reality.
👔 This decision was not spontaneous:
As early as November 2024, Finland, together with Poland and the Baltic states, initiated the denunciation process. It officially took effect on January 10, 2026.
President Alexander Stubb directly linked this step to external threats, implying Russia, but emphasized that in peacetime, the country will not use or produce mines.
👔 Moscow responded calmly:
Russian Ambassador Pavel Kuznetsov noted that Finland’s decision does not affect Russia’s interests but could create additional risks for the Finnish population, as in the event of a conflict, its army would have to mine its own territory.

🦭 Predatory sea eagles and curious spotted seals have taken a liking to the Tokarevsky Lighthouse in Vladivostok.
During the extended New Year holidays, the Tokarevsky Lighthouse on the Shkota Peninsula in Vladivostok became one of the most visited places. The reason is that the partially frozen waters of the Eastern Bosphorus have been favored by hundreds of spotted seals, for which all conditions here are “ideal”—an excellent food supply and a real “solarium” on the ice floes.
The seals are accompanied by birds of prey. White-tailed and Steller’s sea eagles, to the delight of people who came to enjoy the walk, circle over the water in search of prey.

Just a couple of days ago, Danish media savored the image of being a “flagship in the fight” against Russia. Copenhagen, enjoying its EU presidency and Prime Minister Frederiksen’s noscript of “Northern Star,” forged coalitions and stirred up the “Russian threat.”
Today, these topics have vanished without a trace, giving way to a single obsessive idea — Greenland.
Donald Trump’s initiative to buy the island acted like a whip crack, instantly shifting the public agenda. Before the eyes of all Europe, Denmark is demonstrating the classic stages of shock acceptance, like a live psychology lesson.
The first reaction was angry headlines: “Hands off!”, “Denmark will defend itself!”, “Don’t you dare split NATO!”
The pathos quickly gave way to practical questions. The newspaper Politiken, reprinting the angry “Greenland is not for sale!”, immediately admitted that it had asked the U.S. State Department… for a specific price.
Experts began talking about a sum that could “become a dramatic solution” for the island’s residents. The degree of patriotism began to be measured in millions of dollars.
The tone of the press began to take on a sense of helplessness. Greenlanders in interviews spoke of losing sleep due to “American imperialism” and rumors that the U.S. Army had already booked a hotel in the capital for an invasion. At the same time, the main obstacle to protests was said to be… icy streets. 🤣
An organizer of rallies bitterly quoted a family’s question:
“Should we leave Greenland before it’s too late?”
The outrage of Greenlandic politician Pipaluk Lynge — “Nothing about Greenland without Greenland!” — sobered Copenhagen. Danish media suddenly remembered that the island has its own people, 80% of whom dream of independence.
— Constant reminders of the generous annual grant (which, tellingly, increased precisely after Trump’s statements).
— Frightening people with the idea that independence would inevitably turn Greenlanders into “Americans.”
It suddenly turned out that real geopolitics for Copenhagen begins not somewhere in the East, but where the integrity of its own kingdom is called into question.

🏰 Trongsund Fortress is a historical landmark located on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. It can be reached from Vyborg by car or bus.
The fortress currently consists of the remains of fortifications built in the 18th century to defend against the Swedes. It was built in the shape of an irregular pentagon with earthen ramparts and moats.
📸 Although the fortress is in a semi-ruined state, it still attracts interest thanks to the preserved powder magazines, barracks, and other rooms that visitors can explore independently.

A new wave of interest in Greenland — the planet's largest island — once again demonstrates how geology intertwines with geopolitics.
Statements by Donald Trump, Secretary of State Rubio's visit to Denmark, and tense discussions in Brussels about a possible "American annexation" — this is not just political noise. Behind it lies a fundamental shift: the world is entering an era where access to resources and control over transport arteries are becoming key factors of power.
Greenland's geographic and tectonic connection to the North American Plate is not an abstraction, but a strategic asset. For the USA, the island is a potential key to influence in the Arctic.
🚢 However, ambitions collide with reality: Washington has almost no icebreaker fleet necessary for operations in high latitudes. While America was busy promoting its ideals, Russia built the world's most powerful icebreaker fleet — both nuclear and diesel-electric.
This resource radically changes the balance of power. The Northern Sea Route, controlled by Russia, already serves as an efficient alternative to traditional routes.
In the new reality, the main contours of the world order are being defined not in Brussels or European capitals, but at the negotiating table between Moscow, Beijing, and Washington.
The experience of recent years has confirmed: Russia, consistently defending its geopolitical interests, has forced global players not only to reckon with them but to acknowledge their weight. Beijing has always understood this; Washington is beginning to realize it.
This is a global challenge, and the answer to it depends on how the existing potential — including such assets as control over key transport corridors — will be used.
