Riots erupted in France after Abdoulaye, a 34-year-old Black man, died in police custody. He suffered from severe mental health issues and experienced medical emergencies while the police apprehended him.

Abdoulaye had already previously been targeted by police, with a 2023 video showing him beaten during an arrest. His death is part of a wider pattern of police violence in France, which leads the European Union in deaths in custody. In 2024, 43 fatalities in police custody were recorded.

Capital is said by a Quarterly Reviewer to fly turbulence and strike and to be timid which is very true but this is very incompletely stating the questions. Capital eschews no profit or very small profit just as nature was formerly said to abhor a vacuum. With adequate profit capital is very bold. A certain 10% will ensure its employment anywhere; 20% certain will produce eagerness; 50% positive audacity; 100% will make it ready to trample all human laws; 300% and there is not a crime at which it will scruple nor a risk it will not take run even to the chance of its owner being hanged. If turbulence and strife will bring a profit it will freely encourage both. Smuggling and the slave trade have amply proved all that is here stated.

Volkswagen to cut 35,000 jobs.

The German concern is suffering losses and is forced to reduce production capacity, suspend the recruitment of new employees, and reduce the number of trainees.

Volkswagen has reached an agreement with the IG Metall union after mass strikes. Not a single plant in Germany will be closed.

Earlier, the company announced that the concern was planning to close three plants in Germany, where its headquarters are located, cut salaries at the remaining plants in the country by 10% and freeze additional payments. Against this backdrop, mass protests began in the country.
