Football at the Spartakiad

Spartakiads originated in Germany, in the communist organisations of this European country.

The name of the competition is associated with the figure of Spartacus, the famous leader of a slave revolt in Ancient Rome.

After the "Civil" War, the tradition was supported by Soviet Russia.

Spartakiads, up to the middle of the 1950s, were considered the most prestigious sporting competition in the USSR. They were not inferior to the Olympic Games in terms of variety of sports. Both local and international sports and athletics competitions were held, in which representatives of work teams from different countries took part.

The Soviet Union did not take part in the bourgeois Olympiads until 1952, mainly due to ideological differences. All efforts were devoted to the sports and athletics movement.

In 1928, famous soviet poet Vladimir Mayakovsky wrote:

In the late 1920s, football became a truly mass sport in our country, the most popular among fans.
This game was loved with particular passion in Moscow, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kiev, Kharkov, and Tbilisi. Strong football teams emerged in these cities.
True, until 1936 the country's team championships were not held. All the more important were the sports tournaments!

Britain's biggest trade union is obliged to admit that its leadership committed massive fraud and that at least £66 million "went missing" under the previous General Secretary Len Mcluskey (one of Corbyn's big backers). This is a gigantic scandal and one that involves corruption at the highest levels of the union with working class peoples membership dues being used to line the pockets of the Unite leadership and people connected to them. Not only is this a moral and ethical abomination it also opens up the union to be ripped apart by the state forces who will use the case to further discredit trade unionism in the eyes of the working class. The only word one can have for people like Mcluskey is the term traitor. That's what men like him are. They come from the working class but then spend a lifetime climbing through the corrupt structures of the union movement, selling out workers in struggle and lining their pockets as they go. They are the tools of the ruling class, they are petty corrupt little men who sold out their class to grab a few quid.

With every passing day modern football alienates the working class fans that truly care about the game. The supporters mean fuck all to the corporate shysters running the sport. They only seek to profit from the clubs that fans spend their hard earned money to follow. TV and sponsorship revenue is the guiding light.

With the news that La Liga has approved one of their league matches to be played on U.S. soil, we ask just how a season ticket holder, who attends every game, is supposed to afford a flight to Miami? We can fairly assume there is no refund available for those 99.9% who can't.

After a long silence, U2 frontman and self-appointed humanitarian, Bono, released a statement on Gaza. Two years into a genocide, however, the Irish rock star reserved fire only for Hamas, describing them as “evil.” He went so far as to blame Hamas – not Israel – for starving the population of Gaza. “Hamas are using starvation as a weapon,” he wrote.

U2’s thoughts on the situation were roundly mocked and condemned on social media.

But Bono has a very long history of siding with imperial aggressors. He refused to condemn the Iraq invasions, later becoming close personal friends with President George Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair. He described Vice-President Mike Pence as a champion of humanitarianism in Africa. He rubs shoulder with the likes of Henry Kissinger and Bill Gates at the World Economic Forum. He lectures the world on ending poverty while dodging paying tax. And he describes himself as a disciple of Israeli President, Shimon Peres.
