After a long silence, U2 frontman and self-appointed humanitarian, Bono, released a statement on Gaza. Two years into a genocide, however, the Irish rock star reserved fire only for Hamas, describing them as “evil.” He went so far as to blame Hamas – not Israel – for starving the population of Gaza. “Hamas are using starvation as a weapon,” he wrote.

U2’s thoughts on the situation were roundly mocked and condemned on social media.

But Bono has a very long history of siding with imperial aggressors. He refused to condemn the Iraq invasions, later becoming close personal friends with President George Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair. He described Vice-President Mike Pence as a champion of humanitarianism in Africa. He rubs shoulder with the likes of Henry Kissinger and Bill Gates at the World Economic Forum. He lectures the world on ending poverty while dodging paying tax. And he describes himself as a disciple of Israeli President, Shimon Peres.

Wes' support for genocide goes against every ethical duty of a doctor, nurse, scientist, politician or human being. It makes him unfit to "lead" any organisation, and is glaringly incongruous with his role as "Secretary of State for Health"
