Last week, elements of the Norwegian Home Guard’s Rapid Reaction Force Archery (HV-11), along with the U.S. Marine Corps and Royal Marines, carried out the first deployment of its kind to the Norwegian volcanic island of Jan Mayen, located in the middle of the Arctic Ocean, 370 miles northeast of Iceland, 310 miles east of Greenland, and 560 miles northwest of Norway. The deployment, part of ongoing NATO military exercises in Norway, involved the transfer of dozens of Soldiers and Marines to the island aboard Royal Air Force A400M “Atlas” Military Transports, alongside several Marine Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV), meant to represent launchers for the Navy Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS).
