Unlike most everybody else who's trying to get ahead of the Damar Hamlin story, I have taken care of countless patients on ventilators with a similar situation of coding, intubation, heart stimulation, thumping, and nine minutes is a long time without oxygen to the brain, and the heavy narcotic sedation required to prevent panic and suffering while vented.
And here's what I'm going to say, the most common question or communication attempt made by anyone rising out of sedation is one thing and one thing only… and it's not "who won the game"
