Zulfikor Djumaev, a secondary school teacher from Uzbekistan, exemplifies American Councils' vision of educational excellence through his commitment to enhancing English language pedagogy.
In 2019, Mr. Djumaev became a Core Teacher Trainer in the English Speaking Nation: Secondary Teacher Trainer (ESN) program, a collaborative initiative between the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Preschool and School Education (MoPSE) that was implemented by American Councils. The ESN program provided intensive professional development opportunities for English language public school teachers throughout the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Mr. Djumaev’s completion of the 140-hour TESOL Core Certification program highlights his dedication to continuous learning and his passion for teaching. Within the ESN program, Mr. Djumaev played a pivotal role in advancing the skills of teachers in his region. He conducted numerous training sessions for educators in the Surkhandarya region, enhancing their pedagogical expertise and enabling them to pursue various professional development opportunities.
Mr. Djumaev’s influence extended beyond Surkhandarya. He played a key role in organizing the ESN Silk Road Conferences, which brought together hundreds of teachers from different regions of Uzbekistan. Thanks to the collective efforts of Mr. Djumaev and other Core Teacher Trainers, the ESN program had a positive impact on over 18,000 educators throughout the country.
In addition to his involvement in the ESN program, Mr. Djumaev participated in the Tajikistan Secondary School English Teachers Professional Development Program, co-delivering a course aimed at improving the student-centered pedagogical skills of teachers in Tajikistan.
Reflecting on his experience with American Councils and the ESN program, Mr. Djumaev notes, "The program has significantly impacted both my professional activities and personal life. I hope it continues to support projects focused on teacher training and professional development."
