CHINESE GP PREVIEW

- More representative track than Australia; one-step-harder compounds (C2-C4) due to high tyre stress;
- Stability under braking and lateral grip will be important;
- Medium wing load provides the best drag/downforce compromise;
- Most stressed tyre: Rear Left.

Will Ferrari solve their issues?

Will the stricter wing flexibility tests impact the pecking order? 🤔

REAR WINGS - Chinese GP

Similar choices across the grid (medium-load wings)➡️Each car's inherent drag and downforce will be more evident! 💡

Ferrari is using a rear wing much more similar to McLaren's 👀(instead of a more loaded one as in Australia).

Remember that the FIA is introducing much stricter tests in China to test wing flexibility❗️(which should hurt some teams more than others).

CHINESE GP SPRINT QUALI DATA

Let's analyse Lewis Hamilton's first pole in red!

1) AERO ANALYSIS
:
- 🔴🔵Ferrari/RedBull: high efficiency (high downforce, low drag);
- 🟢Mercedes: lowest drag;
- 🟠McL: Highest downforce;
- 🟣Alpine/⚪️Haas: highest drag.

2) MINISECTORS:
HAM/VER's +5km/h higher top speed made them gain on PIA on all the straights (who recovered in the fast corners).

3) GAP TO IDEAL LAP:
A McL P1-P4 finish was possible, but they couldn't combine their best sectors!

CHINESE GP - PRACTICE 1 | LONG RUNS:

Ferrari didn't do any➡️an issue for the Sprint?

Everyone used Mediums: McL and Mercedes were quickest (Excluding ALO/OCO who did just 3 valid laps). Mercedes' degradation was high.

VER was slowest: RBR used very low PU modes and a lot of fuel (slow in the fast corners).

CHINESE GP SPRINT PACE💡

1) 🔴HAM
2) 🟠PIA +0.27s/lap
3) 🟢RUS +0.46
4) 🔴LEC +0.47
5) 🔵VER +0.50

Ferrari's excellent tyre management helped HAM in his dominant win.

Qualifying (and Sprint Qualifying best sectors) showed that McL (and maybe Mercedes) are quicker, yet they wear their tyres more.

An exciting race ahead!

TOP SPEEDS - Quali vs Sprint Quali

Aston lost top speed, while Alpine gained some. Alpine had the highest top speed in Australia, and the lowest in China Sprint Quali. They chose a compromise for Quali.

Mercedes/RBR had high top speed in both sessions.

McL/Haas low in both.

CHINESE GP: RACE PACE PER TEAM

Fastest one-stopper:
1) 🟠McL/PIA
2) 🟢Merc/RUS +0.22s/lap
3) 🔵RBR/VER +0.26
4) 🔴Ferrari/LEC +0.41 (damage)
5) ⚪️Haas/OCO +0.79

McL was unbeatable: PIA was still quicker than HAM despite using one less set of tyres!

HAM's pace at the end was not enough to recover the time lost pitting.

Ferrari lost the pace advantage they had in the Sprint.

Haas' pace was great!

What's YOUR take? 🤔

Norris was lucky not to retire due to his critical brake issue! 😳

The issue started on Lap 54 and became critical on Lap 55. 🚨

NOR:
- Lifted 180m (!) sooner;
- Braked sooner but also less, to avoid temperature spikes;
- Lost up to 2g of braking performance and almost 4s/lap!

Norris noticed the issue at the start of Lap 54, and his race engineer confirmed it from the data. The latter then told him on Lap 55 that the had worsened and was then ‘critical’.

He finished the race just 1.3s in front of RUS (gap was 9s just 3 laps before).
