Interception of the Freedom Flotilla ship by Israel: illegal arrest of 12 humanitarian workers and peace activists, including French MEP Rima Hassan and Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.

We express our deepest outrage following the interception last night by Israeli authorities of the Freedom Flotilla ship, carrying humanitarian aid for the civilian population of Gaza, which has been under a total blockade since March 2, 2025.

On board the ship were 12 humanitarian workers and peace activists engaged in a strictly civilian and non-violent mission. Among them were French MEP Rima Hassan and Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, both recognized for their commitment to human rights and international justice.

This interception, carried out outside Israeli territorial waters, constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, including maritime law and humanitarian law. The arrest of the crew members and the seizure of aid intended for a population in immediate humanitarian need are unacceptable.

We call on States, the European Union, the United Nations, and the entire international community to:

▪️Strongly condemn this illegal arrest.

▪️Demand the immediate and unconditional release of all crew members.

▪️Pressure the Israeli authorities to allow unhindered passage of humanitarian aid to Gaza, in accordance with international law.

It is the duty of all nations committed to human rights not to remain silent in the face of these flagrant violations of international law committed by Israel.

Solidarity is not a crime. Free the crew of the Freedom Flotilla!

Here’s a deeper breakdown of the context surrounding Bulgaria’s planned euro adoption.

On June 4, 2025, the European Commission and the European Central Bank (ECB) gave the official green light for Bulgaria to adopt the euro as its national currency starting January 1, 2026.

📊 Why Now? — Convergence Criteria Met

To join the eurozone, Bulgaria had to meet the Maastricht convergence criteria, which include:

- Inflation rate: Must be close to the EU average.
- Government deficit: Below 3% of GDP.
- Government debt: Below 60% of GDP.
- Exchange-rate stability: Leva must be stable against the euro under ERM II for at least 2 years.
- Long-term interest rates: Should not significantly exceed those of best-performing EU states.

📌 As of early 2025, Bulgaria was judged to be in line with all these requirements, despite past delays linked to inflationary pressures and political instability.

⚠️ Domestic Tensions
