🇨🇱 Protesters clash with police outside of Chile's Congress after fishing law vote gets delayed

Police tear gassed and hurled water from cannons at protesters in front of Chile's national Congress in Valparaiso on Tuesday after a Senate commission delayed a vote on a controversial fishing law that seeks to redistribute quotas between artisanal and industrial fishers.

At least one police officer was injured and several people were detained after protesters knocked down a gate surrounding the building, attempting to enter Congress before being repelled by tear gas, water cannons and baton-wielding police in riot gear.

🇲🇽 Mexico 'ranch of horror' was cartel training site, not 'extermination camp'

Mexico's security minister said on Tuesday there was no evidence that a so-called "ranch of horror" strewn with human remains was an "extermination camp" but rather it was a cartel training site where those who resisted recruitment were killed.

The discovery earlier this month of the site, littered with bone fragments, ashes, alleged makeshift crematoriums, along with hundreds of shoes and backpacks shocked Mexico.

"It's a completely different thing for killings or torture to be carried out on a property than for it to have been an extermination camp," Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch said on Tuesday morning, speaking at the president's daily morning press conference.

"At the moment, I repeat, we have no evidence ... that it had been an extermination camp, but rather a training site."

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday described Argentina as a "friend" with which France can "build the economy of the future," after a telephone conversation with his counterpart Javier Milei.

“Much more than an ally in key sectors, such as critical metals, Argentina is a friend with whom we want to build the economy of the future,” said the French leader.

Milei responded: "Thank you, President Emmanuel Macron. We deeply value your support and France's commitment to the Argentine people. We will continue to work together, as true friends, to face the challenges and build shared opportunities in key sectors for the future.”

Oil cargo slows at Venezuelan ports after tariff announcements

The loading of heavy crude oil from Venezuela at its main ports slowed this week after the United States imposed 25% tariffs on countries that buy Venezuelan oil, and Chevron began reducing its tanker fleet in the region.

As of Tuesday, March 25, Venezuela's main oil port, Jose in Anzoátegui, operated by Petróleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA), had one berth empty, while three supertankers were loading, according to ship monitoring services TankerTrackers.com and LSEG, and a company document, according to a Reuters news agency report.

No tankers were loading for export in Bajo Grande, where higher-quality crude oil shipments are handled, according to the data.

The growing tanker bottleneck could cause loading and shipping delays in the coming days, as many customers remain unsettled by the implementation of US tariffs, especially in China, the largest buyer of Venezuelan oil.
