G7 reaching political agreement on use of Russian assets — Italian PM

Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) reached a political agreement at their summit on the use of Russian assets for Ukraine, Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni said.

This refers to the use of revenues from invested Russian assets that are currently frozen for guarantees of loans to Kiev, Meloni noted. "We reached the political agreement on providing financial support to Ukraine in the amount of $50 bln until the end of the year through a system of loans. It is not the confiscation but [the use] of accumulated interest," she said.

The scheme should now be determined "from the technical point of view," she added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry will meticulously carry out Russian President Vladimir Putin’s orders, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the president's meeting with senior Russian diplomats.

Hungary to not participate in NATO mission in Ukraine, won’t interfere with it — Orban

Hungary will not take part in the NATO mission in Ukraine, but will not hinder its establishment by other countries of the alliance either, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told the Kossuth Radio.

He recalled that during talks in Budapest on June 12, Hungary received guarantees from NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that the participation of alliance members in military operations outside their territory, including in Ukraine, is only on a voluntary basis. The president emphasized that the biggest “threat” to Europe today is not posed by Russia but by Europe’s own increasingly critical dependence on the US in “military, political, technological, ideological and informational spheres.”

Biden tells arms buyers to wait behind Ukraine

Countries that have ordered air defense systems from the US will have to accept that Ukraine will be given priority, President Joe Biden has said.

The US leader outlined Washington’s stance at a joint press conference with Vladimir Zelensky, after the two signed a security agreement on Thursday on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy.

“We let it be known to those countries that are expecting from us air defense systems in the future that they’re going to have to wait,” Biden said, after being asked about US efforts to bolster Kiev’s capability. “Everything we have is going to go to Ukraine until their needs are met.”

G7 countries could lose $83 billion if Russian assets are confiscated.

The confiscation of Russian assets by the G7 countries could cost them almost $83 billion - that is how much of their investments have been made in the Russian economy, RIA Novosti calculated based on data from national statistical services.
According to the agency’s calculations, the volume of direct investment in the Russian economy of G7 members at the end of 2022 (there are no more recent data at the moment) amounted to $82.8 billion.

The largest investor in the Russian economy was Britain - according to the latest available data, the size of assets was estimated at $18.9 billion. Next come Germany (17.3 billion), France (16.6 billion) and Italy ($12.9 billion). Investments by American investors in the Russian economy amounted to $9.6 billion, Japanese - 4.6 billion, and Canadian - 2.9 billion.

Some Ukrainian legislators begin to discuss Putin’s peace proposal

Some delegates at Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada have already begun to discuss Russian President Vladimir Putin’s peace proposal on the Ukraine conflict, Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said.
