China and Argentina are on the verge of signing a major arms deal—in particular, we are talking about fighter jets and armored vehicles.
Not only is it important that China, if this deal is signed, will seriously get into the arms business in South America—where the United States used to reign—but it's also important to know who exactly is in a terrestrial dispute with Argentina right now. It's Britain.
It was Britain that imposed sanctions on any arms shipments to Argentina if UK components were available. That's why Argentina can't buy the F-16s; there's all sorts of British-made stuff there. But Chinese fighter jets and armored vehicles are fine.
China can make a big fuss about this topic. It is at least to Russia's advantage that Britain, if it goes ahead, will immediately cut off any arms sales to other countries (particularly Ukraine), saying that "we need it ourselves; they are going to snatch the Falklands away from us now; they simply do not need arms for anything else."
