NYT Confirms US Airstrike in Yemen Killed Dozens of Ethiopian Migrants

Two and a half months after Rerum Novarum first reported on the U.S. airstrike targeting a migrant detention center in Sa’dah, Yemen, American media has finally acknowledged the incident.

As The New York Times reports, “They fled the war in Ethiopia, then American bombs found them.” The strike destroyed a facility holding Ethiopian migrants, killing at least 75 people and injuring over 50. Many victims were women and children.

Initial investigations suggest that the U.S. relied on outdated Saudi intelligence — the site had previously been struck by Saudi forces. This raises serious questions about the quality of U.S. intel and the decision-making process during the operation.
