✒ Retraction Of Sh. al-Albānī And His Correct Opinion On The Adhān Given In Newborn Baby's Ear
Questioner: Our Shaikh, the question is: Is the Ḥadeeth of giving Adhān in the newborn’s ear proven/established, I heard that it is weak??
Sh. al-Albānī: “Yes, it is.”
Questioner: So can it be acted upon?
Sh. al-Albānī: “No.”
Questioner: So what do you advise us with?
Sh. al-Albānī Raḥimahullāh:
“My advice, and this is a clarification for all of the people, we used to say that Adhān in the ear of a newborn child is legislated, with the knowledge that the Ḥadeeth which states the Sunnah of giving Adhān in a newborn’s ear was reported in the Sunan of at-Tirmidhee with a weak chain of narration, but we follow the method of strengthening the weak Aḥādeeth with (external) proofs.
I had found a supporting narration for this Ḥadeeth in the famous book of Ibn al-Qayyim’s known as; ‘Tuḥfatul-Mawdood Fī Aḥkām al-Mawlood,’ where he had linked this supporting narration to al-Bayhaqī’s Shu’ab al-Eemān, and even though he (Ibn al-Qayyim) had stated that its chain of narration is weak, I regarded this statement of his to mean that the chain of narration (in al-Bayhaqī’s Shu'ab al-Eemān) was not extremely weak (but only weak), and based upon that I held it to be an external proof for the Ḥadeeth of at-Tirmidhee which has been narrated from Abū Rāfi’.
Back in those days Shu’ab al-Eemān was not available to us neither in the form of a manunoscript nor as a printed book, and as many of you know despite my presence in the Ẓāhiriyyah Library, which contains thousands of authored works of Ḥadeeth manunoscripts, this book, Shu’ab al-Eemān of al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Bayhaqī was not present in that library, rather it was not to be found in many of the libraries,
As for today, it has been published and added to the Islamic libraries, it’s an extremely valuable book and contains many narrations which cannot be found in the six books (of Aḥādeeth), rather many of the other ones too, From these narrations is the one which I relied upon Ibn al-Qayyim for, with regards to it being an external proof for the Ḥadeeth of Abū Rāfi’ in Sunan at-Tirmidhee.
So when (I came across) the Ḥadeeth narrated by Imām al-Bayhaqī in his book ash-Shu’ab with a chain of narration in which there are two narrators accused of lying — then it became clear to me that Ibn al-Qayyim, Allāh have mercy upon him, was lax/lenient in holding this Ḥadeeth’s chain of narration to be only weak — and what is more correct is, that it is extremely weak.
So in that case, it is not allowed for the one who is engaged in the ‘Ilm (science) of Ḥadeeth to take something which is extremely weak as an external proof of something with not extreme weakness in it, at that point I had no choice but to retract from (declaring) the Ḥadeeth of Abū Rāfi’ to be strong, which is found in Sunan at-Tirmidhee, with the Ḥadeeth of Shu’ab al-Eemān, due to it being severely weak, so the Ḥadeeth of Abū Rāfi’ stays weak.
And we are upon what Allāh has guided us towards, in terms of impermissibility of acting upon a weak Ḥadeeth, and I went back to the stance that: so long as the chain of narration of Abū Rāfi’s Ḥadeeth is weak and its external proof is even weaker than it, then the weak Ḥadeeth stays weak, so I retract my previous statement of the Adhān in the ear of a newborn child being a Sunnah or something legislated. Ata ibn Yasar reports:
A man once came to Ibn Abbas and said, "I proposed to a woman and she refused to marry me, then someone else proposed to her and she wanted to marry him; so l became jealous and killed her. Can I repent from this?" [Ibn Abbas] asked, "Is your mother alive?" He replied, "No." So he said, "Repent (tawbah) to Allah the mighty and majestic, and worship him as much as you can."
Ata said, "So I went and asked Ibn Abbas, 'Why did you ask him if his mother was alive?' He replied, 'I do not know of any action that brings one closer to Allah than dutifulness to the mother.”

In his famous explanation of Sahih al-Bukhari, ibn Hajr mentioned the following narration:
[سأل رجل الحسن البصري عن قوله تعالى: {رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ} ما القرَّة؟ أفي الدنيا أم الآخرة؟ قال: بل في الدُّنيا هي والله أن يرى العبد من ولده طاعة الله وما شيء أقر لعين المؤمن من أن يرى حبيبه في طاعة الله.]
A man asked al-Hasan al-Basri about Allah's statement:

"O our Lord, grant us pleasure to our eyes in our wives and offspring." [al-Furqan 74]

al-Hasan replied, "No, it is in this life. I swear by Allah, it is for a person to see his child obeying Allah, and there is nothing more pleasing to a believer's eyes than to see his loved one obeying Allah."

Westernism has a silent choke hold in the heart of many Muslims but because westernism is the global dominant norm and culture, many can't even recognize it. Muslims tend to only hate Westernism when they are victims of it but when it comes to their customary lifestyle there seems to be nothing wrong in being part of it. Act like them, look like them is no problem, just get upset when it doesn't treat them fair.
You can wonder why Muslims (especially the youth) face such an identity crisis, there is no confidence in the public space as a Muslim individual or even a desire to have it. The Muslim youth are in a crisis with their Islam for some of these very reasons.

We often see in women’s gatherings girls and young girls, around the age of seven years, wearing short or tight clothes, or strange haircuts, or haircuts for small girls that look like haircuts for boys. If we speak to the mothers and try to advise them, they argue that the children are still small. We hope that you can give us clear advice about children’s clothing and haircuts, may Allah bless you.
Sheikh Al-‘Uthaymīn raḥimahullāh answered:
It is well known that the individual is influenced by things in his childhood and will continue to be affected by them after he grows up. Hence the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) enjoined us to instruct our children to pray when they are seven years old, and to smack them (lightly) if they do not pray when they reach the age of ten, so that they will get used to it, as the child will follow that which he is used to. If a young girl gets used to wearing short clothes that only come to the knee, and short sleeves that only come to the elbow or shoulder, she will lose all modesty and will want to wear these clothes after she grows up. The same applies with regard to hair; a woman should have a hairstyle that is different from that of men; if she makes the hair like a man’s hair, she will be resembling men and the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) cursed women who resemble men.
It should be noted that the family is responsible for these children and their upbringing and education, as the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “A man is the shepherd of his household and is responsible for his flock.” So beware of being heedless; the father should be serious about the upbringing of his sons and daughters, and he should care for them, so that Allah will guide them and they will become a delight to him.

The obligation for children to spend on their poor parents
If a person’s parents are poor and have no means of supporting themselves, it is Fardh (obligatory) for the son to support them if he has the means. He will be sinful if he fails to support them.

When I hear that someone has sued his parent to court, I only imagine how misguided and destroyed he is to be following the western culture. What on earth will warrant you such a cruel mindset? You and your property belong to your father. There's no room for any form of disrespect towards your parent on anything lawful they instruct you to do it. Subhan Allah, some are afraid to introduce their parents in public because they're too old; don't worry your own children will do worse than that to you! Honor, respect and treat your parent with kindness and mercy!

_Be A Righteous Father_
Abdullah ibn Masud رضي الله عنه used to pray at night and would see his small child sleeping then he would say,
"this is for your bright future" and whilst crying would recite
وكان أبوهما صالحًا
"And their father was a righteous man"
(Al-Kahf:82)
Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه said: "They were protected by the righteousness of their father."
Saed ibn Musayb said: "I pray, then when I remember my child, I increase in my prayers"

“The best of discipline is that which is done at a young age. If a child is left to his own characteristics and he or she matures into an adult possessing those characteristics, changing the person would be difficūlt.
A poet said:
ﺇﻥَّ اﻟﻐُﺼُﻮﻥ ﺇﺫا ﻗَﻮَّﻣﺘﻬﺎ اﻋﺘَﺪﻟَﺖ *
ﻭﻻ ﻳَﻠِﻴﻦ ﻗَﻮﻣﺘَﻪ اﻟﺨﺸﺐُ
If you straighten the branches they will straighten up
But wood does not soften if you amend it.
ﻗﺪ ﻳَﻨﻔﻊُ اﻷﺩَﺏُ اﻟﺼَّﻐﻴﺮ ﻓﻲ ﻣُﻬﻞٍ *
ﻭﻟﻴﺲَ ﻳَﻨﻔﻊُ ﻓﻲ ﺫﻯ اﻟﺸَّﻴﺒﺔ اﻷﺩَﺏُ

Know that a doctor considers the age of the patient, as well as his place and time before prescribing the medicine best suited for him.
Likewise, discipline should be suited to each child, and signs of the success or failure of a child can be noticed from a very early age.”

An example of Qiyas Awla:
Allah says in the Qur'an:
فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَاۤ أُفࣲّ
"And never say to them (your parents) even an 'uff"
{Al-Isra':23}
If an "uff" is forbidden to say to our parents, then anything worse than an "uff", like swearing at them or mocking them, is more worthy to be considered forbidden. Because it is awla (more in level) than an 'uff", so it becomes the Qiyas Awla for the prohibition on saying "uff" to parents. Therefore, anything worse in level than "uff" is more forbidden to say to our parents.
Allah says in the Qur'an:
فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَاۤ أُفࣲّ
"And never say to them (your parents) even an 'uff"
{Al-Isra':23}
If an "uff" is forbidden to say to our parents, then anything worse than an "uff", like swearing at them or mocking them, is more worthy to be considered forbidden. Because it is awla (more in level) than an 'uff", so it becomes the Qiyas Awla for the prohibition on saying "uff" to parents. Therefore, anything worse in level than "uff" is more forbidden to say to our parents.

Luqmān b. ʿĀmir reported that Abū ʾl-Dardāʾ used to buy sparrows from children and then set them free, saying: “Fly away and lead a free life!”
