United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) Step 1 score reporting will transition to pass/fail outcomes only for administrations on or after January 26, 2022. Step 1 examinations administered before January 26 will include a three-digit numeric score.

Outcomes for Step 1 administrations occurring before January 26, 2022 will continue to include a three-digit score and pass/fail. Step 2 Clinical Knowledge and Step 3 examinations will continue to be reported as a three-digit score and pass/fail.

✅ Have not already met the clinical and communication skills requirements for ECFMG Certification. (If you have a passing performance on Step 2 CS that is valid for ECFMG Certification or your Pathways application for the 2021 Match was approved, you have already met the clinical and communication skills requirements for ECFMG Certification and are not currently eligible to pursue a Pathway.)

Programs will have access to review applications at 9:00 a.m., Eastern Time in the United States.

❗All applications submitted September 1 through September 29 will appear to programs as submitted on September 29. ERAS Support Services at ECFMG highly recommends that you submit all of your supporting documents, including MSPEs, no later than September 21 to help ensure their availability on September 29 when programs begin accessing applications.

You may certify and submit your MyERAS application and begin applying to programs. Residency programs may begin reviewing applications and Medical Student Performance Evaluations (MSPEs) on Wednesday, September 29 at 9 a.m. ET. Applications submitted on or before September 29 at 9 a.m. ET will display an application date of “September 29” to programs. Applications submitted after September 29 will display the actual application date.

✴️1. New Supplemental ERAS Application

The supplemental ERAS application is now open until Thursday, September 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Update: participation in the supplemental ERAS application is optional for those applying to participating programs in all three specialties, to align with the NRMP's Match Participation Agreement.

To receive an invitation to complete the supplemental ERAS application, you will need to save a program in

🔹internal medicine
🔹dermatology
🔹general surgery

in the MyERAS application program. Once saved, you will receive an email invitation from SuppERASApp@aamc.org.
Invitations will be sent in batches daily (Monday – Friday) from Sept. 1-29 after the supplemental application opens on Sept. 1 beginning at 9 a.m. ET. The email will contain a personalized link to complete the supplemental application that is separate from the MyERAS application. If you save one or more participating programs and do not receive an email invitation, please contact SuppERASApp@aamc.org.

On Wednesday, September 15 at 12 p.m. ET, registration will open for the 2022 Main Residency Match conducted by the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®). NRMP is a separate organization and thus requires a separate registration by applicants. Supplemental ERAS applications and preference signaling in the Match: a pilot ERAS project aimed to mitigate issues of over-application

In an effort to mitigate the effects of over-application in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) is trialing a supplemental application designed to help students share more about themselves and assist program directors in findings applicants that fit their programs’ setting and mission. An important component of this new supplemental application is preference signaling, which is based on the successful pilot conducted by otolaryngology in the 2020-2021 Match season.

For the current ERAS cycle, supplemental applications are being offered only to applicants seeking residency positions in DERMATOLOGY, PRELIMINARY and CATEGORICAL INTERNAL MEDICINE, and CATEGORICAL SURGERY. Supplemental applications can be completed beginning September 1st through September 30th.

Supplemental Application Window:
- Supplemental ERAS applications submitted by September 19 will be available to programs on
- Supplemental ERAS applications submitted between September 20 - 30 will be available to programs on October 6.
