May 'Curated Culture' wallpapers celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
In the fifth month of 2022, Google is releasing Curated Culture wallpapers to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM). *Searching it on Google will also show you an Easter Egg suprise.

These wallpapers are designed by Sarula Bao (their Instagram), showing solidarity of Asian people. Besides, as it is also Year of the Tiger, he also created one special wallpaper to mark the celebration too.

As usual, if you have a Pixel 3 and later device, you can find it directly in the Wallpapers & Styles app, else you can just download them below the post.

Other: This is the last security patch for the Pixel 3a/XL phones. Correction Along other fixes, the Android Security Bulletin mentioned a dirty pipe fix, any device with the May Security Patch will be safe from that exploit. Follow @PixelHubUpdates
CORRECTION:
A Google representative told 9To5Google:

In May 2019 at the launch of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, we announced that the devices would receive three years of software updates and three years of security updates from when our devices first became available on the Google Store. The final update for Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will rollout to users by July 2022.

As the device is not elegible for the Android 12 QPR3 beta, you could expect an update in July with just the June and July security patches just like Pixel 3 users did get 4 months of security patches at once.

Google Pixel Buds Pro under development, coming in four colors variant
Jon Prosser

There's not much discussion about the Google Pixel Buds as most have shifted their focus to the upcoming Pixel 6a and the long awaited Pixel Watch. Anyway, Jon Prosser has received the information that Google Pixel Buds Pro will be the next earbuds from Google.

As the name suggests, this will be a better version of the original Pixel Buds. Besides, Prosser mentioned it will be coming in four color variants, Real Red, Carbon, Limoncello and Fog respectively.

That's pretty much it. He didn't confirm that it will be launching in I/O 2022, and there isn't a lot of information about the upcoming earbuds, so it is likely to be launch alongside with the Pixel 7.

YouTube Go will be forgotten, sunsetting on August 2022
YouTube Community

YouTube Go is a lightweight application made to run on low-end devices. It was launched back in 2016, but recently it has not received any more updates, and Google has decided to shut down the service around August.

This particular app pretty much does the job you had expected, streaming video. It also has a data-saving feature to help save cost for your cellular data. You can also download videos and watch them later.

If you want to find an updated lightweight YouTube client application with all these features, NewPipe will do the job. Otherwise, you can just follow YouTube's advice and install their official app or use the web version to continue watching videos from various creators.

Google Maps let you choose your preferred transport methods
9to5Google

Google Maps is an important tool while travelling. Some people might prefer walking on the street to view the place better, some might want to quickly reach the destination, and Google Maps has offered something neat to this.

While choosing directions to a place, you get to see the "Options" button on the top-right corner of the menu, tapping on it will let you choose your preferred transport mode. Options vary depending on which regions you are currently in. Most will get to see Drive, Walk, Train/Rail and Bus options.

This feature is available on recent versions of the Google Maps application and probably widely rolled out.

Android 13 will block malicious use of Accessibility APIs
Esper Blog

Till today, users have to manually enable the accessibility service for applications as the API can take "full control" of the whole device. Users are being warned when doing so. On Android 13, there are some changes made to protect users.

On Android 13, if you have sideloaded applications with applications that used session-based package installation API, there won't be any restrictions on enabling accessibility service for those apps. Third-party app stores like Aurora Store won't be affected for example. You can watch this demonstration video to understand how it works.

Google has told Esper that they only wanted to restrict accessibility API access for applications that came from less legitimate sources. Even if applications have been blocked access to use the accessibility service, users can still bypass it by going to the app info and tapping on the three-dot menu, then "Allow restricted settings."

Here's why you don't get OTA update for Android beta builds after signing up
r/android_beta

Google is currently running two versions of Android Beta program, one for the Pixel Feature Drop and one is for the upcoming major release Android 13. There are some limitations Google would like to explain when you opt-in the beta program around this time.

Users who have installed the May security patch update on their phones will then have to wait until Android 12 QPR3 Beta 3 builds or Android 13 Beta 2 are released in order to receive the beta build OTA update. Besides, once you have installed the Android 12 QPR3 Beta 3 build, if you want to switch over to Android 13 beta, the OTA update will only arrive when Beta 2 is released.

Android 12QPR3 Beta 3, which will be the final beta build for that particular version, will be arriving this week. Android 13 Beta 2 will be coming later this month. You can of course, choose to manually install it yourself instead of waiting, but you need to wipe your device as currently those beta builds are older than the recently released May stable update build.

Lastly, for those who are on Android 12 QPR3 and want to return to the stable channel without erasing your device, one more month to go till you can opt out the beta program without any conflict.

Pixel 6a case first impressions
Digital Trends

A phone case manufacturer, Poetic sent Digital Trends a Pixel 6a case, compared to the Pixel 6 the phone is:
- slightly smaller by a few milimetres
- has a smaller camera bump by ± 1/3 (14-16mm vs 21mm)

The Pixel 6a features an in-display fingerprint sensor instead of a physical one featured on the 5a as suggested by the placement of the fingerprint sensor sticker on the frame with the screen protector.

As any other Pixel, the 6a features the Google styled volume/power buttons layout with both of them on the right hand side.

Google silently releases the Android 13 Beta 1 for Android TV
Android Police | Mishaal Rahman

Few days after releasing the Android 13 Beta 1 for Pixel devices, Google has decided to release a version of it for Android TV.

There aren't many changes found in it besides support for varying content aspect ratios when viewing picture-in-picture windows and a new low-power mode but we might hear more about it during the Google I/O keynote in few days.

So far it is only available on the Google ADT-3 dev box, or Android Studio emulator just like the Android 12 TV Beta.
