DOJ Deploys ‘Antisemitism Task Force’ To Four US Cities As Part Of Crackdown On Pro-Palestine Protests

The task force is likely using a definition of antisemitism that includes criticism of Israel

The US Department of Justice said Thursday that its recently created “Federal Task Force to Combat Antisemitism” will be heading to four US cities as part of the Trump administration’s broad crackdown on college protests critical of Israel.

The DOJ said the task force, led by attorney Leo Terrell, will be visiting the leadership of New York, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles to discuss “their responses to incidents of antisemitism at schools and on college campuses in their cities over the last two years.”

While the pro-Palestine protests that swept college campuses have been labeled “antisemitic,” many Jewish students and organizations have participated...

Attorney General Pam Bondi accused officials of not taking enough action against the protests. “Too many elected officials chose not to stand up to a rising tide of antisemitism in our cities and campuses following the horrific events of October 7, 2023,” she said. “Actions have consequences – inaction does, too.”

The DOJ, along with several other federal agencies, recently announced the cancellation of approximately $400 million in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University over claims of “inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students” even though Columbia has taken a heavy hand against students critical of Israel...

Back in 2019, President Trump signed an executive order directing all executive departments to consider the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism and the organization’s list of examples of “contemporary antisemitism” when enforcing Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

The IHRA’s examples of “contemporary antisemitism” includes “drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.” It also lists applying “double standards” to Israel by “requiring of it a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation” and “denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination” by “claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor.”

Civil liberties groups have sounded the alarm about the administration’s crackdown on pro-Palestine protests, including the effort to deport Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder arrested by ICE over the weekend for his role in protests at Columbia. Khalil has not been accused of a crime, and the administration is trying to deport him by claiming he’s been involved in activities “contrary to US foreign policy.”

Khalil has been accused of being “pro-Hamas,” a label that the administration hasn’t defined and appears to apply to all critics of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza. The White House alleged Khalil was involved in distributing “pro-Hamas propaganda fliers,” but hasn’t offered evidence for the claim.

The administration does not just want to target foreigners, as Terrel has said he wants to put “Hamas supporters” in jail and that federal hate crime indictments would be coming soon. “You see all these disorderly demonstrations, supporting Hamas and trying to intimidate Jews? We are going to put these people in jail — not for 24 hours, but for years,” he told Israeli media last month.

🚨AP Exclusive: US And Israel Look To Africa For Moving Palestinians Uprooted From Gaza

The U.S. and Israel have reached out to officials of three East African governments to discuss using their territories as potential destinations for moving Palestinians uprooted from the Gaza Strip under President Donald Trump’s proposed postwar plan, American and Israeli officials told The Associated Press.

The contacts with Sudan, Somalia and the breakaway region of Somalia known as Somaliland reflect the determination by the U.S. and Israel to press ahead with a plan that has been widely condemned and raised serious legal and moral issues. Because all three places are poor, and in some cases wracked by violence, the proposal also casts doubt on Trump’s stated goal of resettling Gaza’s Palestinians in a “beautiful area.”

Officials from Sudan said they have rejected overtures from the U.S., while officials from Somalia and Somaliland told The Associated Press that they were not aware of any contacts.

Under Trump’s plan, Gaza’s more than 2 million people would be permanently sent elsewhere. He has proposed the U.S. would take ownership of the territory, oversee a lengthy cleanup process and develop it as a real estate project.

The idea of a mass transfer of Palestinians was once considered a fantasy of Israel’s ultranationalist fringe. But since Trump presented the idea at a White House meeting last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hailed it as a “ bold vision.”

Palestinians in Gaza have rejected the proposal and dismiss Israeli claims that the departures would be voluntary. Arab nations have expressed vehement opposition and offered an alternative reconstruction plan that would leave the Palestinians in place. Rights groups have said forcing or pressuring the Palestinians to leave could be a potential war crime.

Still, the White House says Trump “stands by his vision.”

Thousands Of Syrian Alawites Sheltering At Russian Base One Week After State Massacres

Syrian government-linked armed groups have carried out 54 massacres since 6 March, killing at least 1,476 Alawite civilians in the country's coastal areas

Thousands of Syrian Alawites continue to seek sanctuary at a Russian air base, fearing for their lives in the wake of a series of horrific sectarian massacres carried out by Syrian government-affiliated extremist armed groups.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that about 9,000 people were seeking refuge at Hmeimim, an air base established by Russia as part of its 2015 intervention in the US-backed war that began in 2011 to topple the Syrian government of former president Bashar al-Assad.

Thousands of people have been sheltering at the Hmeimim Air Base near the coastal city of Jablah since 7 March, when extremist militants went from house to house in predominantly Alawite towns and villages, killing residents and looting and burning their homes.

A few Alawites have left the base, seeking to return to their houses.

Reuters reported on 14 March that Rana Boushieh, 34, returned to her village, Al-Sanobar, on 13 March. Her brother reassured her that the situation had stabilized and encouraged her to return home, arranging for her to be escorted by government security forces.

It’s no coincidence that its viral surge in 2024 aligned with escalating economic, social, and technological upheaval. Homelessness just hit record highs in December 2024, global debt soared, and decades of rapid change have left many feeling powerless. The term reflects both personal volatility—a mental health crisis gripping the population—and a broader instability rocking humanity. Economic decline since the 1970s, paired with relentless technological disruption, has strained human adaptability, amplifying stress across all planes of life. "Crashing out" isn’t just a phrase—it’s a symptom of a world where agency feels out of reach, and despair looms large.

Crashing Out - Positive and Negative Connotations

One of the key factors driving the spread of "crashing out" is its flexibility. As both a verb and a noun, it can describe not only actions but also the person committing them. Additionally, it can be used with a positive or negative connotation. Someone who "crashes out" might be seen as reckless or destructive, but in some circles, being a "crashout" can be a badge of honor, symbolizing someone who refuses to conform or play by the rules. Part of the common undertone around the modern use of the phrase is the user of the phrase having an empathy for, maybe even sometimes understanding, for the one being described as “crashing out”. At the end of the day, the slang’s viral adoption underscores the general anxiety in the collective conscious, it hints at turbulent undercurrent in the societal psyche. A society on the edge, on the verge of losing control and “crashing out”...

CIA Agent Accused Of Spying On Assange Caught Faking Evidence.

Spanish courts have launched a criminal investigation against accused CIA contractor David Morales for forging official documents. Morales created the documents in an alleged attempt to justify bugging Julian Assange's meetings with his lawyers and doctors. Forensics reports and officials confirm that the evidence was fabricated.
This is the second time Morales has been allegedly caught forging emails and documents from Ecuadorian Ambassador Carlos Abad. Abad mocked Morales' earlier forgery: "in 27 years I had never seen something so poorly done; even amateur hackers are better at phishing."

More than one million Americans are about to face a new level of financial surveillance. The Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced that the threshold for currency transaction reports has been lowered from $10,000 to $200 for Americans living in 30 zip codes in California and Texas. Financial surveillance in the United States has long needed reform, but this move is in the wrong direction.

FinCEN officially announced the temporary policy change as an effort “to further combat the illicit activities and money laundering of Mexico-based cartels and other criminal actors along the southwest border of the United States.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, “As part of a whole-of-government approach to combatting the threat, [the] Treasury remains focused on leveraging all our available tools and authorities to better identify and counter these criminal activities.”

While this announcement is disappointing, it is not surprising. Alex Nowrasteh, the Cato Institute’s vice president for economic and social policy studies, warned people in February that President Trump’s decision to designate cartels as terrorists could have repercussions for civil liberties and the economy at large. Specifically, Nowrasteh noted that the designation would allow the government to freeze assets, enact secondary sanctions, and take greater control of the financial system generally.

What makes this announcement especially troubling is that the $10,000 threshold for currency transaction reports is long overdue for reform. At the very least, many people agree that the amount should be adjusted for inflation. Whether you base that adjustment off the reporting done under the Trading with the Enemy Act in 1945, the enactment of the Bank Secrecy Act in 1970, or the Treasury’s currency transaction report regulation in 1972, it’s clear that this reporting regime has gotten out of hand (Figure 1).

Yet, instead, we are seeing a drastic increase in financial surveillance, making the problem even worse.

Whether it’s the mob or the cartel, organized crime is not an easy thing to deal with. However, this challenge does not mean Americans should have their rights stripped away in the pursuit of justice. As Fight for the Future warned Congress in 2023, “Should [criminals] successfully tempt the United States to abandon the human right to privacy and the U.S. Constitution, everyone will lose.” That was true when the Biden administration tried to surveil bank accounts with just $600 in activity, and that is true now that the Trump administration is surveilling as little as $200 in activity.

UN Commission: “There is no escape from the conclusion that Israel has employed sexual and gender-based violence against Palestinians to terrorise them and perpetuate a system of oppression that undermines their right to self-determination.”

A new report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry accuses Israel of employing systematic sexual, reproductive, and gender-based violence against Palestinians as part of a broader strategy to undermine their right to self-determination. The report states that Israel has committed genocidal acts through the destruction of reproductive healthcare facilities, the imposition of a siege, and the denial of humanitarian aid.

Key Findings:

➤ Sexual and Gender-Based Violence as a Strategy of War:

➝ Israeli security forces allegedly force public stripping, sexual harassment, threats of rape, and sexual assault as standard procedures against Palestinians.
➝ Rape and genital violence were reportedly committed under explicit orders or implicit encouragement from Israeli leadership.
➝ Israeli settlers in the West Bank allegedly use sexual violence to terrorize and displace Palestinian communities, with impunity.

➤ Destruction of Reproductive Healthcare and Genocidal Acts:

➝ Israeli forces have systematically destroyed sexual and reproductive healthcare facilities in Gaza, including maternity wards and the main in-vitro fertility clinic.
➝ Israel’s blockade and prevention of medical supplies have resulted in women and girls dying from pregnancy and childbirth complications, an act classified as extermination under international law.
➝ These acts meet two categories of genocidal crimes under the Rome Statute and Genocide Convention:
➝ Deliberately inflicting conditions of life to bring about physical destruction.
➝ Imposing measures intended to prevent births among Palestinians.

➤ Mass Civilian Deaths and Targeting of Women and Girls:

➝ Israel’s bombing of residential buildings and use of heavy explosives in densely populated areas have led to an unprecedented rise in female fatalities.
➝ Women, girls, and maternity patients have been deliberately targeted, acts the report classifies as crimes against humanity (murder) and war crimes (willful killing).
