Hamas And Israel Swap Prisoners As Trump Declares War's End

Israel frees some 2,000 Palestinians in exchange for 20 captives as part of ceasefire deal

Hamas and Israel exchanged prisoners on Monday as US President Donald Trump announced the war on Gaza has ended.

The Palestinian movement released 20 living captives from Gaza to the International Red Cross starting starting at 8:00 AM local time (5:00 AM GMT). They were later transferred to Israel.

Shortly after, Israeli authorities began releasing 1,968 Palestinian prisoners under the terms of the agreement.

Most were released to the Gaza Strip, while some were to the occupied West Bank.

Around 150 were expelled from Palestine entirely - initially transferred to Egypt before their planned relocation to other countries at a later stage.

"The enemy failed to retrieve its captives through military pressure, despite its intelligence superiority and overwhelming power. Now, it is forced to recover them through a prisoner exchange deal - just as the resistance had promised from the beginning," al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, said in a statement.

"To our free prisoners: Gaza and its resistance have sacrificed their most precious assets and exerted every effort to break your chains. We pledge that your cause will remain at the forefront of our national priorities until you all attain your freedom."

In a rare move ahead of the release of the some of the captives, Hamas allowed several of the detainees to make video calls to their families in Israel.

Footage shared by Israeli media showed captives Matan Zangauker, Nimrod Cohen, and David and Ariel Cunio speaking with their families via video link, alongside Hamas fighters.

Trump Claims Hamas Received 'Approval' To Conduct Security Operations Throughout Gaza

Hamas has been cracking down on Israel-backed militias and clan members in Gaza, who are said to be behind the killing of prominent journalist Saleh al-Jaafarawi

US President Donald Trump said on 13 October that Hamas’s internal security operations against militias in Gaza have been given “approval” by Washington.

“We gave them approval for a period of time,” the president said on Air Force One, adding that the resistance group wants to “stop the problems.”

“You have close to two million people going back to buildings that have been demolished, and a lot of bad things can happen. So, we want it to be safe. I think it's going to be fine. Who knows for sure,” he added.

The Gaza Interior Ministry announced on Sunday that it is offering a general amnesty to members of armed gangs responsible for smuggling and looting aid, as long as they were not involved in any murder.

Gaza’s Interior Ministry forces were ambushed by a group of militiamen over the weekend, resulting in fierce clashes. Hamas security and military personnel were killed.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that US President Donald Trump's proposal focused solely on Gaza and lacked clarity regarding Palestinian statehood.

"We have noted that Donald Trump's peace plan only addresses the Gaza Strip. It mentions statehood, but in rather general terms," Lavrov said today.

"It's imperative to flesh out these approaches, including defining what will happen in the West Bank," he added.

Trump Suggests One Of His Biggest Donors Cares More About Israel Than The US

The president addressed Miriam Adelson during his speech to the Israeli Knesset

President Trump on Monday suggested that Miriam Adelson, one of his biggest donors during his 2024 campaign, “loves” Israel more than the United States, comments he made during an address to the Israeli Knesset in Jerusalem .

“I’m gonna get her in trouble with this one, but I actually asked her once, ‘So, Miriam, I know you love Israel. What do you love more? Israel. The United States or Israel?’ She refused to answer. That might mean Israel,” the president said.

Miriam’s late husband, Sheldon Adelson, was also a major contributor to Trump’s previous presidential campaigns, and Trump credited the couple for pro-Israel moves he made in his first administration, including recognizing the Israeli annexation of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

“Miriam and Sheldon would come into the office, they’d call me. I think they had more trips to the White House than anybody else I could think of. Look at her sitting there so innocently, she got $60 billion in the bank … and she loves Israel,” Trump said in his Knesset address, which Miriam attended.

“Her husband was a very aggressive man, but I loved him, very supportive of me. And he’d call up, ‘Can I come over and see you?’ I say, ‘Sheldon, I’m the president of the United States, it doesn’t work that way. He’d come in and do good, though. But they were very responsible for so much, including getting me thinking about Golan Heights,” Trump added.

The president made similar comments while on the campaign trail last year. “Miriam and Sheldon would come into the White House, probably more than almost anybody outside of people that worked there. And as soon as I’d give them something, always for Israel, as soon as I’d give them something, they’d want something else. I’d say, ‘give me a couple of weeks, will you please,'” he said at the Israeli-American Council National Summit in September 2024.

‼️ SDF commander confirms decentralization talks with Damascus

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) General Commander Mazloum Abdi revealed that the issue of “decentralization” was raised during a recent meeting with the leadership of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Damascus.

Speaking to Ronahi TV about last week’s talks, Abdi described the meeting as “positive,” saying that although not all issues were resolved, “we started a dialogue and will continue talking.” He noted that both sides expressed willingness to discuss “a non-centralized Syria” and confirmed that an Autonomous Administration delegation will soon visit the new Syrian government.

Abdi stated that constitutional changes are required to reflect this approach, adding that “many steps will be taken mutually.” He emphasized that while the SDF supports Syria’s territorial integrity, “the system should not be centralized.”

On military arrangements, Abdi said the integration of SDF forces into the new Syrian army was also on the table. “Sharaa was more open on this issue. Some points were agreed upon,” he noted, explaining that a military delegation from the SDF will travel to Damascus within days to continue talks. He added that around 30,000 internal security personnel under the SDF would become part of the Interior Ministry under any future arrangement.

Abdi also said that foreign powers should not directly interfere in this process but acknowledged that “Turkiye could play a positive role” in reaching a solution, stressing that a settlement in Syria “is difficult without Turkiye’s involvement.”

SDF Signals Imminent Integration Into Syrian Army After ‘Positive Talks’ With Damascus

Clashes erupted recently between the Kurdish militia and extremist forces within the Syrian army

The commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said, while addressing the group's fighters, that the Kurdish militia’s integration into Syria’s new military will take place “soon,” confirming positive negotiations with Damascus in the aftermath of the recent flare-up between the two sides.

“The SDF will become a strong part of the new Syrian army. In the coming days, we, as the SDF command, will dispatch a delegation to the Syrian defense ministry in Damascus in order to implement the March 10 agreement. The process of SDF’s integration into the Syrian army will begin,” Abdi said.

“In the new Syria, in addition to the SDF’s integration into the Syrian new army, our anti-terrorism forces (YAT) will also play a new role. Their work will not be limited to northeast Syria, but will be nationwide. They will work alongside other units of the Syrian army. We believe that the experience the YAT has gained in the past 11 years of fighting against terrorism will play a leading role in the new process in the fight against terrorism, ISIS, across Syria, rather than only in northeast Syria,” the SDF commander added.

“Syria is going through a new situation. A new Syria is being established following the collapse of the Baath regime. A new army is being established in Syria. We, as a principal force that played a significant role in protecting Syria, the war on terror, and protecting our people, will also take part in the process of the establishment of a new Syrian army,” he went on to say, stressing that the SDF will play a “key role.”

Abdi said in a separate interview with Ronahi TV that talks were “positive,” but clarified that not all issues have been resolved. “We started a dialogue and will continue talking.”

Israeli Troops Commit Mass Arson In Gaza City After Ceasefire: Report

Soldiers bragged on social media as they set fire to residential buildings and food stores

Israeli occupation forces carried out a deliberate campaign of arson across Gaza City immediately after the ceasefire was declared, a DropSite News report published on 13 October revealed.

According to the investigation, soldiers from the Golani, Givati, Nahal, Kfir, and newly created ultra-Orthodox Hashmonaim brigades set fire to homes, shops, and infrastructure on 9–10 October as they retreated from the city.


Many documented their acts online, sharing photos of flames consuming entire blocks with captions such as “Leaving a mark,” “A small souvenir,” and “Good riddance.”

One Kfir Brigade member posted an image on social media beside a fire, writing, “On Friday, just before departure. Burning food so that it won’t reach the Gazans, may their names be erased.” Another described the scorched buildings as “[one] last memory.”

Among the facilities destroyed was the Sheikh Ajlin sewage treatment plant, the last functioning site capable of processing Gaza City’s wastewater.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has joined the growing wave of opposition to a new Senate Democrat proposal aimed at tightening federal control over decentralized finance.

The draft legislation would give the Treasury Department expanded authority to target DeFi protocols and extend Know Your Customer rules to a broad range of non-custodial interfaces and wallet developers.

If adopted, the Senate Democrats’ proposal would have profound implications for financial privacy in the United States.

By attempting to impose Know Your Customer rules on DeFi frontends and non-custodial wallets, the legislation would effectively strip users of the ability to transact anonymously or pseudonymously on open financial networks.

These tools allow individuals to maintain sovereignty over their funds without relying on centralized intermediaries.

Subjecting them to surveillance mandates would mean forcing developers and interface operators to collect personal data they were never designed to access or store, an impossible task in many cases and a clear threat to user anonymity.

The broader consequence is a chilling effect on privacy-focused innovation.

Developers who build permissionless tools that enable self-custody and decentralized access could face legal exposure simply for contributing to open-source code or maintaining user interfaces.

This would not only discourage US-based development but could also erode protections for individuals seeking alternatives to traditional financial surveillance systems. Rather than targeting criminal activity narrowly, the proposal sets a precedent for blanket financial monitoring that treats all users as potential suspects.

For privacy advocates, this is a direct challenge to the right to private, censorship-resistant economic participation.

Armstrong, in a post on X, was clear in his rejection. “We absolutely won’t accept this,” he wrote.

“It’s a bad proposal, plain and simple, that would set innovation back, and prevent the US from becoming the crypto capital of the world.” While criticizing the substance of the proposal, he emphasized the importance of ongoing engagement in the legislative process.
