Tensions Remain Along Pakistan–Afghanistan Border After Days Of Deadly Clashes

Mediation from Saudi Arabia and Qatar put a stop to the clashes that began after Islamabad reportedly targeted TTP militants in Kabul and Paktika

The borders between Pakistan and Afghanistan remained closed for a second day on 13 October, following days of deadly clashes that left dozens killed on both sides.

Saudi and Qatari mediation put an end to the fighting over the weekend, with Islamabad saying its forces killed over 200 Taliban fighters. Kabul reports killing about 58 Pakistani soldiers since the hostilities started last week.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said, “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan complied by halting the war,” but warned that “if these attacks continue, Afghanistan reserves the right to defend its territory.”

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said Islamabad remained “committed to defending its national interests and territorial integrity,” accusing fighters “supported by India” of launching attacks from Afghan soil, an allegation that Kabul has rejected.

The clashes followed explosions in the Afghan cities of Kabul and Paktika that the Taliban blamed on Pakistan.

❗️UK government allocates $9.33 million for pro-Israel 'anti-Semitism' training at universities

The British government is providing a £7 million ($9.33 million) funding package to a pro-Israel group to conduct 'anti-Semitism' training at universities.

The Union of Jewish Students (UJS), which is affiliated with the World Zionist Organisation that supports Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, will deliver the training.

According to the Department for Education (DfE), the UJS will run around 600 sessions for university staff in the coming weeks to help them "identify harassment and hate" and promote "open, respectful debate."

Ahmad Al-Sharaa Reportedly Heading To Moscow To Discuss Russian Bases, Demand Assad Handover

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, formerly Abu Mohammad al-Julani, will reportedly visit Moscow on Wednesday to hold talks on Russia’s continued military presence in Syria, according to Syria TV and a source familiar with the matter to Reuters. Discussions are expected to focus on the future of Russia’s naval base in Tartous and its air base in Hmeimim, as well as cooperation over port and airport use to transport aid into Syria.

According to a Syrian source, Sharaa will also formally request that Russia hand over ousted Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. Since the fall of Assad's government in December 2024, Moscow has maintained diplomatic channels with the new Syrian authorities.

Israel Violates Ceasefire With Deadly Attacks On Palestinians In Gaza

Nine Palestinians were killed less than 24 hours after the US and Arab states signed the ceasefire deal in Sharm el-Sheikh

The Israeli army killed several Palestinians in Gaza on 14 October despite the new ceasefire agreement which has taken effect across the strip.

In total, nine Palestinians were killed by Israeli ceasefire violations, Palestinian media reports said. Three bodies arrived at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, while another six arrived at Gaza City’s Baptist hospital.

An Israeli quadcopter targeted civilians in Gaza City’s Shujaiya neighborhood while they were inspecting their homes.

Israeli artillery also shelled areas in Jabalia and Al-Tarans, accompanied by gunfire. There was also gunfire reported in the Al-Tahlia area of Khan Yunis in south Gaza.

Additionally, a group of young men near Al-Fukhari, east of Khan Yunis, was targeted by Israeli forces, resulting in one death.

Moscow Foils ISIS Terror Attack Coordinated With Kiev: Report

The Kremlin says ISIS also carried out a terror attack in coordination with Kiev at a music hall in Moscow in 2024

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) stated on 13 October that its officers foiled a terrorist attack in Moscow that was planned by ISIS under the direction of Ukrainian intelligence.

ISIS operatives sought to target a high-ranking Russian Defense Ministry official using an explosive device in a densely populated area of the capital city, the agency said in a statement.

“The FSB has prevented a sabotage and terrorist act against one of the senior officers of the Russian Defense Ministry, organized by Ukrainian special services in coordination with leaders of the international terrorist organization Islamic State (banned as a terrorist organization in Russia),” the FSB statement said.

Four suspects connected to the plot were detained, including a native of a Central Asian country.

The FSB said the plan was developed by Ukrainian intelligence and would have been carried out by a suicide bomber recruited by an ISIS member named Saidakbar Gulomov.
