Israeli General Claims 'Conditions Favorable' For Lebanon Buffer Zone
Some in Israel also want to occupy and ethnically cleanse southern Lebanon to establish Jewish settlements
Major General Ori Gordin, the head of the Israeli army’s Northern Command, has recommended the creation of a security buffer zone under Israeli control in southern Lebanon, Israel Hayom reported on 16 November.
According to sources from the Hebrew newspaper, Gordin argued in private meetings with the army leadership that the conditions were favorable for creating such a buffer zone for several reasons.
Gordon claimed that many members of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan commando unit have been killed or withdrawn from the border over the past 11 months of fighting.
He added that roughly 80 percent of civilians had been evacuated from the southern Lebanese villages that Israeli troops would occupy as part of a buffer zone.
The Major General said the primary objective is to end Hezbollah attacks on northern Israeli settlements, which have also been evacuated.

At 11 P.M. Wednesday, a Ramle man was shot to death in the street. At around midnight, a woman was killed in a car in the city's Jawarish neighborhood. Toward dawn, a man from Jdaideh-Makr was shot dead on a motorcycle and later Thursday morning, a 19-year-old man seriously wounded his mother in Kafr Qasem. At 5 P.M., a hand grenade was thrown at a shop in Ramle: A woman and her 8-year old daughter, a 10-year old boy and a 24-year-old woman were killed. And Friday, there was another homicide in Tira.
Seven Arab citizens were killed in Israel in under 24 hours of "governance." As the grenade was tossed into the store, the responsible cabinet minister and the police commissioner met to finalize the new police appointments that will strengthen National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's grip on the police.
Since then, a bomb has exploded in a car in Acre, and a young man and a 5-year-old girl have been wounded by gunfire in Jisr al-Zarqa. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 210 violent deaths in Israel, 168 of them members of the Arab community. Instead of dealing with the accusations, during a PR tour of the scene in Ramle, the minister in charge chose to blame the attorney general and silence the media.
The police also prefer to focus their resources on the political persecution of the anti-government and pro-hostage deal demonstrators. Over the past month, the police arrested demonstrators holding silent protests in the form of a picnic near the homes of cabinet members and lawmakers ;refused to release dozens of protestors from custody, on the orders of "certain ranks"; arrested and quickly charged a 27-year-old woman who allegedly threw a ball of sand at Minister Ben-Gvir; dismantled a tent encampment in support of the hostages; shoved the aunt of murdered hostage Carmel Gat; and, on Friday afternoon, arrested three women for distributing flyers in a synagogue.

🚨BREAKING - FBI: Iranian Hackers Sent Unsolicited Information Stolen From Trump Campaign To People Associated With Biden’s Campaign
WASHINGTON (AP) — hackers sought to interest President Joe Biden’s campaign in information stolen from rival Donald Trump’s campaign, sending unsolicited emails to people associated with the then-Democratic candidate in an effort to interfere in the 2024 election, the FBI and other federal agencies said Wednesday.
There’s no indication that any of the recipients responded, officials said, and several media organizations approached over the summer with leaked stolen information have also said they did not respond. Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign called the emails from Iran “unwelcome and unacceptable malicious activity” that were received by only a few people who regarded them as spam or phishing attempts.
The announcement is the latest U.S. government effort to call out what officials say is Iran’s brazen, ongoing work to interfere in the election, including a hack-and-leak campaign that the FBI and other federal agencies linked last month to Tehran.

UN Condemns Largest Single Massacre Of Staffers In Gaza After Israel Bombs School
Thousands of displaced Palestinians taking shelter at the Al-Jaouni school in Nuseirat refugee camp have fallen victim to Israeli airstrikes five times since the start of the war
At least 18 Palestinians were killed, including six staff members of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), when Israeli warplanes bombed a humanitarian shelter at the Al-Jaouni school in central Gaza's Nuseirat refugee camp on 11 September.
UNRWA described Wednesday's attack as “the highest death toll among our staff in a single incident,” revealing that among the victims “was the manager of the UNRWA shelter and other team members providing assistance to displaced people.”
“This school has been hit five times since the war began. It is home to around 12,000 displaced people, mainly women and children. No one is safe in Gaza. No one is spared.”
“What's happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable. A school turned shelter for around 12,000 people was hit by Israeli airstrikes again today. Six of our UNRWA colleagues are among those killed. These dramatic violations of international humanitarian law need to stop now,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday.
UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini also condemned the Israeli attack and said that the staffers had been providing support to families who had sought refuge in the school, highlighting that at least 220 of his agency’s staff had been killed in Gaza since 7 October.
“Humanitarian staff, premises, and operations have been blatantly and unabatedly disregarded since the beginning of the war,” he said in a statement.
Tel Aviv confirmed carrying out the massacre but claimed it had targeted a “Hamas command and control center” without providing any evidence.
“Are these children terrorists? May God punish them. The Israelis destroyed our home; killed and starved our people; women are widowed and children orphaned,” an unidentified woman told Al Jazeera in a video testimony on Wednesday.
“Six children … What crime, what wrong did those innocent children do?”
Another survivor told the Qatari news outlet that the section of the school that was bombed had been “dedicated only to women.”
“All of a sudden there was a huge explosion … Women and children were blown to pieces. We rushed to see our children but found them torn to pieces … This is the fifth time – the fifth time – the school building has been pounded by Israeli warplanes. It is supposed to be a safe sheltering area,” he said.

UN Overwhelmingly Votes To Sanction Israel, Impose Arms Embargo
The vote passed with 124 in favor and 43 abstentions. Washington and Tel Aviv voted against the resolution, along with 14 others.
...The Palestinian-drafted resolution called on Israel to end “its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory” within 12 months, including the presence of illegal settlements and hundreds of thousands of illegal settlers.
The resolution urged states to “take steps towards ceasing the importation of any products originating in the Israeli settlements, as well as the provision or transfer of arms, munitions and related equipment to Israel ... where there are reasonable grounds to suspect that they may be used in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.”
The issue of Palestine is “the permanent responsibility” of the UN until it is solved in accordance with international law, the resolution states.
It also cites an advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in July regarding the illegality of Israel’s West Bank occupation...
This was the first resolution officially advanced by Palestine since it took its seat among UN member states for the first time this month after being granted additional privileges following a General Assembly vote in May.
It was co-sponsored by 50 states at the General Assembly, including Turkiye.

US Navy Chief Unveils Plan To Be Ready For War With China By 2027
The US is preparing for a direct fight with China despite the risk of it turning into a nuclear war
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the highest ranking officer in the US Navy, unveiled a plan on Wednesday to be ready for a war with China by 2027 as the US military is preparing for a direct fight with Beijing despite the risk of nuclear war.
The plan lays out goals to be reached by 2027, including making 80% of the naval force ready for combat deployments on short notice. Franchetti told The Associated Press she wants to increase combat readiness so “if the nation calls us, we can push the ‘go’ button, and we can surge our forces to be able to meet the call.”
Other goals include increasing recruitment, improving Navy infrastructure, removing delays in ship maintenance, and increasing the use of drones and other autonomous systems.
Franchetti said the US is taking lessons from Ukraine’s operations against Russia in the Black Sea and the US’s new war against the Houthis in Yemen. US Navy ships have battled the Houthis since January in what US commanders have called the largest US naval battle since World War II, but the campaign has failed to deter or stop Houthi attacks.
Franchetti said that she is focusing on getting ready for war with China by 2027 because that is “the year that that President Xi (Jinping) told his forces to be ready to invade Taiwan.” However, that idea is only based on claims from US intelligence officials.
While China has ambitious goals for its military, there’s no evidence of a direct order to be ready for an invasion of Taiwan by 2027. Earlier this year, Defense News reported that Xi raised the issue with President Biden when the two leaders met in San Francisco in November 2023.
Recounting the meeting, a US official said: “Xi basically said: ‘Look, I hear all these reports in the United States [of] how we’re planning for military action in 2027 or 2035. There are no such plans. No one has talked to me about this.' ”
The Defense News report noted how the claims about a Chinese invasion of Taiwan have helped funnel money to a US military buildup in the Asia Pacific. The claim about a 2027 invasion was first made in 2021 by Retired Adm. Phil Davidson, the former head of US Indo-Pacific Command.
“The concern it generated earned a nickname: the ‘Davidson window,’ shorthand for the near-term threat of an attack on Taiwan,” Defense News reported. “And that changed how Congress spent money...."

Israel Bombed A Residential Block In Gaza. Then Drones Shot At Anyone Trying To Rescue The Survivors
On September 17, the Israeli army bombed a block near the al-Bureij refugee camp, completely destroying seven homes and trapping dozens under the rubble. When rescuers arrived at the scene to help, Israeli drones started firing at them as well.
‘They are killing our families and preventing us from rescuing them’
The Israeli army bombed an entire residential block east of al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip at dawn on September 17. Over seven buildings housing Palestinian families were completely destroyed, caving in on top of the heads of their inhabitants. According to witnesses, the Israeli army prevented ambulance and Civil Defense crews from reaching the site to rescue those who may have survived, using quadcopter drones to shoot at anyone who arrived.
Civil Defense teams had first arrived at the site at around 5:30 a.m. and began rescue efforts, despite the difficulty of working in the dark without proper equipment.
The spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza, Mahmoud Basal, told Mondoweiss that when Civil Defense teams first arrived at the site, they found that all the bombed houses had been inhabited by three families. The Tartawi family, the Abu Shawqa family, and the Batran family accounted for over 50 people in the buildings.
“Our teams arrived on site and saw the bodies of the martyrs under the rubble and the ceilings that had fallen on top of them,” Basal told Mondoweiss .
Not long after first responders started pulling victims out from under the rubble, the Israeli army’s drones arrived and shot upon rescuers, journalists, and bystanders.

New BRICS Payment System To Include Trading, Investing & Settlements
BRICS is working towards the creation of a new payment system without the integration of the US dollar in its mechanism, confirmed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The minister added that the new payment system will not only be used to settle cross-border transactions, it will act as a complete financial set-up.
The development, when launched, could attract emerging economies towards it making a shift away from the US dollar. The Russian minister revealed that the new BRICS payment system will be equipped with trading, investing, and along with trade settlements. He explained that the mechanism will allow countries to partake in financial operations without being dependent on the US dollar. The move will make the alliance’s quest of de-dollarizing their economies much stronger.
Lavrov also hit out at the US and Europe for pressing sanctions on countries they don’t like. He stressed that the sanctions are what led to BRICS decision on launching a new payment system. Even US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen acknowledged that the White House sanctioning developing nations led to de-dollarization.
“Many are attracted by the fact that payment systems are being developed within BRICS. Which allows trading, investing, carrying out other economic operations without being dependent on those that decided to weaponize the dollar and the euro,” the foreign minister said.

Israeli Torture Chambers Aren’t New. They Provoked October 7
For many years I lived just up the road from Megiddo prison in northern Israel, where new film of Israeli guards torturing Palestinians en masse has been published by Israel’s Haaretz newspaper. I drove past Megiddo prison on hundreds of occasions. Over time I came to barely notice the squat grey buildings, surrounded by watch towers and razor wire.

There are several large prisons like Megiddo in Israel’s north. It is where Palestinians end up after they have been seized from their homes, often in the middle of the night. Israel, and the western media, say these Palestinians have been “arrested”, as though Israel is enforcing some kind of legitimate legal procedure over oppressed subjects – or rather objects – of its occupation. In truth, these Palestinians have been kidnapped.
The prisons are invariably located close to major roads in Israel, presumably because Israelis find it reassuring to know Palestinians are being locked up in such large numbers. (As an aside, I should mention that transferring prisoners out of occupied territory into the occupier’s territory is a war crime. But let that pass.)
Even before the mass round-ups of the past 11 months, the Palestinian Authority estimated that 800,000 Palestinians – or 40 per cent of the male population – had spent time in an Israeli prison. Many had never been charged with any crime and had never received a trial. Not that that would make any difference – the conviction rate of Palestinians in Israel’s military courts is near 100 per cent. There is no such thing as an innocent Palestinian, it seems.
Rather, imprisonment is a kind of terrifying rite of passage that has been endured by generations of Palestinians, one required of them by the bureaucracy managing Israel’s apartheid-occupation system.
Torture, even of children, has been routine in these prisons since the occupation began nearly 60 years ago, as Israeli human rights groups have been regularly documenting.
The imprisonment and torture of Palestinians serve several goals for Israel. It crushes the spirit of Palestinians individually and collectively. It traumatizes generation after generation, creating fear and suspicion. And it helps to recruit a large class of Palestinian informants and collaborators who secretly work with Israel’s secret police, the Shin Bet, to foil Palestinian resistance operations against Israel’s illegal occupation forces.
