O economista israelense-americano Joel Mokyr, de 79 anos, foi um dos três vencedores do Prêmio Nobel de Economia anunciado nesta segunda-feira (13). O comitê reconheceu os pesquisadores por “explicarem o crescimento econômico impulsionado pela inovação”. Mokyr divide a premiação com Philippe Aghion, do Collège de France e da London School of Economics, e Peter Howitt, da Universidade Brown.

Nascido em Leiden, nos Países Baixos, em uma família judaico-holandesa que sobreviveu ao Holocausto, Mokyr foi criado em Haifa, em Israel. Formou-se em Economia e História pela Universidade Hebraica de Jerusalém e obteve doutorado em Economia pela Universidade Yale, nos Estados Unidos. Atualmente, é professor na Northwestern University e pesquisador visitante na Universidade Hebraica e na Universidade de Tel Aviv.

Apontado como um dos maiores historiadores econômicos do mundo, Mokyr é conhecido por seus estudos sobre o papel da inovação tecnológica no crescimento sustentado. Segundo o comitê do Nobel, ele identificou as condições necessárias para que o progresso científico e econômico se mantenha ao longo do tempo. Para a Universidade de Tel Aviv, o prêmio reforça “o prestígio da pesquisa israelense no cenário global”.

Just two days after being released from over two years in Hamas captivity in Gaza, Matan Angrest attended the funeral of his tank commander, Captain Daniel Perez (22).

Daniel was killed and then kidnapped on October 7, 2023, while courageously defending southern Israel from Hamas terrorists who infiltrated the border.

Matan, Daniel, Tomer Leibovitz, and Itay Chen fought side by side that day, a tank crew bound by bravery and brotherhood. Tomer, Daniel, and Itay were killed in the massacre. Itay, an American-Israeli, remains held hostage in Gaza. On October 13, Daniel was returned to Israel and yesterday (October 15) he was laid to rest.

StandWithUs UK Statement on Arrest of Oxford Student for Inciting Hate

StandWithUs UK welcomes the swift action taken by law enforcement and the University of Oxford following the arrest of a student who was filmed chanting inflammatory and hateful messages during a protest in London on 11 October 2025.
The language used in these chants was not political expression but an incitement of hate that targets Jewish people and those who support the right of Israel to exist. Such rhetoric fuels fear within the Jewish community and contributes to a toxic atmosphere on British campuses.
This incident demonstrates why our Voice of Students recommendations are urgently needed. In particular:
Recognition – Institutions must acknowledge the clear link between anti-Zionism and antisemitism. Denying Jewish people the right to national self-determination or using “Zionist” as a slur perpetuates prejudice.

Accountability – Universities must act decisively and transparently when hate speech occurs within their communities.

Expulsion – Those who promote or incite hatred and violence against any group should face firm disciplinary measures, including expulsion when appropriate.
When British students celebrate a massacre, it is first and foremost a national problem. It is not just a Jewish problem. A society that rejoices in the murder of human beings is a society in moral collapse.

We call on all universities across the United Kingdom to adopt policies that ensure Jewish students feel safe, supported and respected on campus. Words of hate have no place in our academic institutions.
