THE REPRESSION OF BRITISH COMMUNISTS SUPPORTING PALESTINE CONTINUES – ARRESTS AND ACCUSATIONS BY THE CRIMINAL AUTHORITIES IN THE UK

On 13 January 2024, another protest in London in solidarity with the people of Palestine ended in arrests. At the very end of the big march, no less than 50 police surrounded the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) literature stall and began a thorough search of the printed material. They then announce that the leaflet on Palestine has been criminalised.

The authorities arrested three revolutionary communists, members and sympathisers of the party. They were charged under the Terrorism Law of 2000, Article 12 - "for supporting a banned organisation, the Palestinian Hamas". Along with this, the police confiscated a leaflet about Palestine that has been distributed by the party since October 2023.

We remind you that just a month and a half ago, on 25 November 2023, the British authorities arrested four communists from the same party, accusing them of illegal support for the resistance in Palestine.

Following yesterday's arrests, our comrades from the UK have announced a protest for 14 January outside Hammersmith police station, where those arrested are being held. They call for support with the following words:

“Happy New Year - a year of struggle and what a year. Join us to oppose Israeli genocide. To defend our right to free expression. Let us not allow the movement for solidarity with Palestine to be criminalized.

“Because the next time you get arrested it will be you ... ”

The 23 September Movement fully supports the struggle of the revolutionary communists and we are convinced that the repression of the authorities will not suppress, but on the contrary, will strengthen the revolutionary movement for freedom, independence and socialism.

Israel is intentionally targeting Gaza journalists who courageously expose the ongoing genocide.

Video footage of the arrest of our comrades yesterday. They still have not been released or charged more than 24 hours later. Our comrade Ranjeet was snatched from outside Hammersmith police station and he too has not been released or charged. All arrests were made under the terrorism act.

One thing we noticed about all the arrests — our comrades have been singled out by zionist spotters, in particular the rabid Harry’s Place blog, and their photos passed to the police.

On Saturday the police waited til the demo had finished going by and then swooped on our stall as it was packing up, with relatively few members of the public around to offer support. There were between 40-50 officers involved in the action!!

When Ranjeet was grabbed today another large crowd of police was sent to do the job. His 5-year-old son was with him but police wouldn’t allow him time to make sure the child was safe and not running into the road before dragging him off.

Why are so many officers needed to target a few leafleters? Why are the police acting under orders from freelancing zionists? Why are the powers that be so desperate to build a narrative that supporting Palestine is supporting terrorism?

Considering what is at stake for British and US imperialism in the middle east right now, and considering Israel’s catastrophic losing in the court of public opinion, our readers can probably answer some of those questions themselves.

Türkiye arrests Israeli football player for displaying solidarity with Hamas hostages.

Antalyaspor’s Israeli player Sagiv Jehezkel was taken for questioning for showing solidarity during a top-league game.

Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said late Sunday that the Israeli international is under investigation over possible charges of “openly inciting the public to hatred and hostility.”

Tunc maintained in a statement posted on X that Jehezkel had engaged in “an ugly gesture in support of the Israeli massacre in Gaza.”
