🇺🇦 106 years ago, on February 17, 1918, Vladimir Vasilyevich Shcherbitsky was born - a Soviet party and statesman, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Ukrainian SSR in 1972-1989.
During the years of Shcherbitsky's tenure at the head of the Ukrainian SSR and thanks to the selfless work of millions of citizens, the economic potential of Soviet Ukraine increased almost 4 times, the volume of industrial production - about 5 times. Agriculture began to produce almost twice as much product, labor productivity increased more than 2.5 times, and with it wages increased 2.5 times. By the beginning of the 1980s. In terms of economic growth, Soviet Ukraine was more powerful than any state in Western Europe. According to UN estimates, it was one of the ten most advanced countries in the world.
The population of Ukraine increased from 43.1 million in 1961 to 52 million in 1990, or by almost 9 million people. Shcherbitsky did a lot for Ukrainian culture: in Ukraine there were 60% of Ukrainian-language schools and 40% of Russian-language ones, the Virsky ensemble and the Grigory Veryovka choir developed, amateur groups and libraries multiplied, the Kiev Opera House was restored, the leading football club of the USSR and in foreign championships became Kiev " Dynamo". At the same time, Shcherbitsky harshly suppressed attempts to manifest Ukrainian bourgeois nationalism in any form.

After coming to power in the USSR in 1985, M.S. Gorbacheva V.V. Shcherbitsky very quickly recognized the falsehood of perestroika. The leader of the Ukrainian communists did not accept the fact that the process of improving socialism was gradually being replaced by its dismantling, that the economy was sliding into a “wild market”, that the state was being removed from managing the economy.
On September 20, 1989, Shcherbitsky was removed from the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee, and on September 28, 1989, at the insistence of M.S. Gorbachev, resigned from the post of first secretary of the Communist Party of Ukraine.
On February 16, 1990 - 5 months after his resignation and the day before his 72nd birthday - Vladimir Shcherbitsky died. He was buried at the Baikovo cemetery in Kyiv.

What I find absolutely fascinating about socialist construction is what planning and the removal of profit margins can create.
The built up areas may look empty in these pictures and that's because it is. The area is mapped and planned. The people who need homes are taken into account, how best to situate these abodes for the community. Then they position schools, shops, parks and all amenities needed for the workers to live.
Then when all this is done they have a bloody big party to celebrate the homes that are given to them. The work they do is all meaningful to the country so the country repays them with a respectable life.

In April 1948, he left for Damascus to meet with the Military Committee of the League of Arab States in order to ask for arms to repel the zionist incursion into Al-Quds, but the League failed him and the people of Palestine. It was at that time he received news of the occupation of Al-Qastal, a strategically located village west of Al-Quds. Before he left, Al-Husseini wrote a letter to the League in which he says, “I hold you accountable after you left my soldiers at the heights of the victories without aid or weapons”.
He returned one last time to fight, waging a fierce battle against the incursion into Al-Quds and proclaimed, "I am going to al-Qastal, and I will storm it and occupy it, even if that leads to my death. By God, I am tired of life and death has become dearer to me than this treatment that the League has dealt us. I am now wishing for death before I see the Jews occupying Palestine. The men of the league and the leadership are betraying Palestine."
When the news spread that he planned to liberate Al-Qastal, fighters across Palestine came to his aid, liberating the village and raising the Palestinian flag later that afternoon on April 8, 1948. Fighters would later find out he was martyred during its liberation.
His legacy was carried forward by his wife Wajeeha Al-Husseini who was his partner in struggle, a daughter and three sons, who fought in the ranks of the Palestinian revolution after the Nakba of 1948.
His unwavering bravery and tireless efforts to defend our homeland and resist occupation continue to inspire us in our struggle for liberation. His courage and sacrifice remain a guiding light as we persevere steadfastly in the face of the cowardly zionist enemy. We honor Al-Husseini’s legacy by renewing our commitment to our struggle. We draw strength from his sacrifice and all those who followed in his footsteps. Together, we will continue the struggle until martyrdom or victory.
Glory to the eternal Martyr Abdelqader Al-Husseini.
