On February 27, 1943, in the battle for the village of Chernushki (Pskov region), 19-year-old guard private Sailor Alexander Matveevich covered the embrasure of the Nazi machine-gun bunker with his body. In June 1943, he was posthumously awarded the noscript of Hero of the Soviet Union. During the Great Patriotic War, more than 300 soldiers accomplished the same feat. Sailor was not the first in this ranks, but it was his name that became a symbol of heroism.

165 years ago, on February 20, 1859, Fyodor Afanasyevich Afanasyev, a Russian revolutionary worker, Bolshevik, was born.
Born in the village of Yazvischi, St. Petersburg province. In 1871 he was sent to the factory school of the Krenholm manufactory in Narva, where he worked as a weaver. After military service, he spent some time in his homeland, where, despite his young age, he was elected local elder.
Soon, however, he left the village with someone else’s passport to wander around Russia. He lived in Odessa, where he worked at the port, and wandered around the south. There he was arrested and sent to his homeland, from where he went to St. Petersburg with his passport and entered Voronin’s factory, where he organized a weaving circle.
In 1889 he became a member of the “Central Working Committee”, created with the aim of uniting Social Democratic circles. The first May rally of St. Petersburg workers in 1891 was organized largely through the efforts of Afanasyev.
In the spring of 1891 he moved to Moscow, where he was sent by L. Krasin to organize workers' circles and establish contacts.
In 1892, he was arrested in the Brusnev case and, after a three-year prison sentence, was deported to his homeland.

Since February 1896, Afanasyev visited Riga, Shuya, Pavlovsky Posad and Ivanovo-Voznesensk. In Ivanovo-Voznesensk he became one of the leaders of the local group of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party, but in November 1903 he was again arrested by the police.
In January 1904, he was released under special supervision, settled in Ivanovo-Voznesensk, went underground and worked for a long time as secretary of the Northern Committee of the RSDLP, and then secretary of the Ivanovo-Voznesensk Committee of the RSDLP.
Bolshevik. He was extremely popular among the workers, who called him “Father.” Together with Mikhail Frunze, he became one of the leaders of the Ivanovo-Voznesensk strike of 1905. He was elected as a deputy of the St. Petersburg Council of Workers' Deputies.
On October 22 (November 4), 1905, during a rally on the Talka River, Fyodor Afanasyev was torn to pieces by a crowd of Cossacks and Black Hundreds. A memorial sign was erected at the site of his death.

💬 M.V. Zakharova: April 7 marks exactly 10 years since the proclamation of the Donetsk People's Republic. This decision was taken in the course of a truly popular expression of the people's will.
Ten years ago, with the active intervention of the United States and its allies, a bloody armed coup d'état was carried out in Kiev, as a result of which radical nationalist forces came to power. "Maidan" led to a sharp polarization of Ukrainian society, which created the preconditions for an armed civil conflict.
The US and its satellites were directly interested in the coup d'état in Kiev. With their help, radicals were nurtured and began to establish their own order, impose nationalist ideology on society, rewrite history, and, in fact, turn Ukraine into an anti-Russian project.
The first legislative steps of the "Maidan victors", in particular the attempt to abolish the law on regional languages, were received with alarm in southeastern Ukraine, where the spontaneous formation of popular militia forces began. People demanded their legal rights, first of all the right to speak their native language and to teach their children in it. Under these circumstances, the new Kiev authorities launched the so-called "anti-terrorist operation" for the armed suppression of the popular protests in Donbas.
On April 7, 2014, the Council of Representatives of Municipalities, Political Parties and Public Organizations of the Donetsk Region was formed in Donetsk, at the meeting of which the Declaration of Sovereignty and the Act on the Proclamation of State Autonomy of the Donetsk People's Republic were approved.
🗳 On May 11, 2014, in referendums held simultaneously in Donetsk and Lugansk regions, citizens expressed their attitude to the idea of creating sovereign states. In the DNR, 89.7% of those who voted were in favor of it.

Women bring bread to Soviet prisoners of war
Nazi Germany's war on the Soviet Union was a war of annihilation. Huge numbers of Red Army prisoners of war were fenced-in like this behind barbed wire and then left to die when they had eaten the grass, the soil, their boots.

There's a fairly simple way to deal with this Maga-Communism debate and that is to not treat anyone as beyond criticism and that there are no online messiahs. There is no magic formula for breaking through 100 years of anti-communism, if Haz or Hinkle play some role in breaking some of that down then that's positive. What will actually overcome the problems facing the US proletariat though is not videos or online debates or twitter batttles but the traditional hard work of organising in the real world. Building a communist Party in the United States that escapes the wretched legacy of the post 1953 left is the task. None of us who do online work have the right to be regarded as the leaders of anything, we haven't earned that right and if what we did was that threatening we'd be banned very quickly. The job in the online world is to inspire people to read the history and theory, to help people develop a Marxist-Leninist perspective. That can only be a starting point though as it will take joining together with comrades in your community, workplace, town or city to start actually making advances. There's no shortcuts to this and no easy answers. The best result that anyone who does ML media work should want is that those who watch their videos go and join an organisation, get active in their labour union and start building that way. I will reiterate my point, when it comes to Maga-communism or anything else if you find it useful that's fine but see it or what I do as a gateway to real world activity and always regard any online media with a critical eye, never allow yourself to simply become a media consumer who mistakes that for political action.
If you're in Britain then we are fortunate in that we have an ML party that we can join, the CPGB-ML and I urge everyone reading this in this country to do so. If you're in the USA you can get in touch with the Chicago Workers School or check out PCUSA. We must build organisations connected to the proletariat in a real sense. That is our priority and must remain so.
