Lenin at the Southern Pole of Inaccessibility!

In an amazing story from 2020 that got far less attention than it deserved -- likely due to the start of the pandemic -- a Chinese explorer and adventurer, Feng Jing, hiked to the Southern Pole of Inaccessibility (POI), which is the farthest point from all the coastlines of Antarctica. Very few people have ever visited this inhospitable spot. She had previously skied to the South Pole.

With two assistants she reached the POI after 80 days on January 25, 2020. It is a remarkable achievement traversing over 1,800 kilometers in extreme conditions. No one had ever reached the spot on foot before.

As Russia Beyond noted in an article about the POI, "the average year-round temperature is an astounding -58.2°C (-72.8°F)" at the site.

One fascinating aspect to the trip is that there is a Lenin statue at the POI!

In 1958 the Soviet Union sent an expedition of scientists there with the goal of establishing a base camp. On top of the camp structures they placed the Lenin bust.

The camp was essentially abandoned and only a handful of people have travelled there. The camp buildings were buried by snow over the last 60 years, but incredibly Lenin is still visible and there unharmed having survived despite it all.

Any number of metaphors could be drawn about this, but regardless it makes for a great story.

Why Socialism?
by Albert Einstein

The economic anarchy of capitalist society as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of the evil. We see before us a huge community of producers the members of which are unceasingly striving to deprive each other of the fruits of their collective labor—not by force, but on the whole in faithful compliance with legally established rules. In this respect, it is important to realize that the means of production—that is to say, the entire productive capacity that is needed for producing consumer goods as well as additional capital goods—may legally be, and for the most part are, the private property of individuals.

Excellent overview by our Comrade Alex of the real motivations for shuttering various regime-change and 'soft power' outfits in Washington.

These events cannot be judged on the basis of human logic and rationality. Nor can they be seen as a fundamental move away from the aim of regime change itself.

None of it will make any sense if we fail to take into account the global crisis of overproduction and the desperate need of the imperialist financiers to expand their avenues of profit-taking and restore profitability. Which can only be done at the expense of rivals and the expense of one another – and ultimately at the expense of the working people, both at home and abroad.

What the moves really signify is a change in tactic that has been forced by conditions of economic crisis and military DEFEAT. And by the fact that the regime-change machinery as it currently exists has essentially become a busted flush. Too well exposed by anti-imperialist investigators and governments to be any use in the places where it is most needed – ie, Russia and China.

The Trump White House is not carrying out 'a revolution' and it is certainly not 'antiwar'. It is certainly trying to hide some serious defeats for US imperialism (Ukraine, Gaza) behind a lot of grandstanding and bluster, which is aimed as much at the home population as at the apparent targets.

Fundamentally, the imperialists, while by no means in agreement over the best way forward, are casting about to find other ways (covert and overt) to achieve their continuing goal of looting the world.

An oppressed class which does not strive to learn to use arms, to acquire arms, only deserves to be treated like slaves. We cannot, unless we have become bourgeois pacifists or opportunists, forget that we are living in a class society from which there is no way out, nor can there be, save through the class struggle. In every class society, whether based on slavery, serfdom, or, as at present, wage-labor, the oppressor class is always armed. Not only the modern standing army, but even the modern militia—and even in the most democratic bourgeois republics, Switzerland, for instance—represent the bourgeoisie armed against the proletariat. That is such an elementary truth that it is hardly necessary to dwell upon it. Suffice it to point to the use of troops against strikers in all capitalist countries.
