On this day, 21 May 1941, a strike began of actors in Norway against Nazi occupation. Many actors, who were unwilling to perform after the Nazis took over broadcasting, had previously signed a secret pledge to go on strike if any artist was fired for political reasons. Six actors refused to work on the radio when ordered to by Nazi authorities including Tore Segelcke, Lillemor von Hanno, Gerda Ring and Elisabeth Gording (pictured, clockwise from top left).
On May 21 they were summoned to Oslo police HQ for interrogation, and all had their work permits revoked. That evening, workers walked out, shutting down every theatre in the capital. By the following day, the strike had spread to Bergen and Trondheim. The Gestapo began threatening the actors, but they voted overwhelmingly to continue the strike. On May 24, German authorities gave an ultimatum to the workers, and began arresting union representatives. But even after this, and being threatened with the death penalty, the strike continued for five weeks.
In the wake of the dispute, the Nazis decided to take complete control of theatres, but the general public had no interest in fascist "entertainment" and so boycotted them.

Just as women cannot achieve emancipation without the proletarian revolution, equally there can be no proletarian revolution without the full and equal participation of women in the revolutionary movement.

A class approach to the women’s struggle
We must understand the history and class basis of women’s oppression, and build an organisation that facilitates their participation.

"The capitalists often boast that their constitutions guarantee the rights of the individual, democratic liberties and the interests of all citizens. But in reality, only the bourgeoisie enjoy the rights recorded in these constitutions. The working people do not really enjoy democratic freedoms; they are exploited all their life and have to bear heavy burdens in the service of the exploiting class"

Here is an excellent contribution from a Red Youth comrade, delivered at a 2016 general meeting of the Stalin Society. In this talk, she reflects on what Comrade Stalin represents to her, and delves into the monumental achievements of the Soviet people, particularly of women's liberation under socialism.
Comrade Stalin’s unwavering commitment to the proletarian revolution drove the Soviet Union forward, proving to the world that only socialism, led by the proletariat with an understanding of Marxist-Leninism, can bring about true emancipation - for women, for workers, and for all oppressed people.

‘Toxic masculinity’ is a nonsense term. It doesn’t describe a class. It doesn’t describe a system. It describes a vague set of behaviours supposedly unique to men, divorced entirely from the economic conditions that produce those behaviours.
It is the liberal’s comfort blanket: a way to talk about violence, anger and alienation without ever mentioning the capitalist system.

Rice-transplantation Brisk at Farms of DPRK
Pyongyang, May 22 (KCNA) -- Agricultural officials and workers in the DPRK and those helping the farmers are pushing ahead with rice-transplanting.
Agricultural workers in South Hwanghae Province have transplanted rice seedlings in more than 10 000 hectares of paddy fields by bringing about good results every day with the enthusiasm to finish rice-transplanting in most of rice paddies within May.
North Phyongan Province set a proper period for rice-transplanting after considering the features of the area and strains of rice, and has mobilized all its forces and means.
Agricultural workers in South Phyongan Province continue to make efforts to grow healthy rice seedlings and transplant rice seedlings in paddy fields, meeting the technical requirements for rice-transplanting.
Agricultural workers in North Hwanghae Province are planting rice seedlings while placing emphasis on boosting the survival rate of rice seedlings and examining their growth.
