🕵️ Conspiracy theorists on social media who believe in the possibility of travelling through space and time have had a field day with an old photograph dating to WWII.
🖼 The black-and-white pic depicts a man dressed in a lightly colored trench with his hand reaching out to his head in a manner appearing to resemble someone chatting on a cell phone, they insisted.
▪️Hailing from the family archive of Kristján Hoffman, an Icelander, the photograph was shared on a Facebook group page called Gamlar ljósmyndir ("Old Photographs"). The scene captured in the shot is of Allied troops deployed in Iceland's capital, Reykjavík, during the Second World War.

🇨🇦🇨🇳 Canada will be boosting its military presence in the Indo-Pacific in line with a strategy that Ottawa has tailored to keep China’s growing clout at bay, Defense Minister Anita Anand stated.
💬 "We will challenge China when we ought to. We will cooperate with China when we must," Anand said.
Canada’s ties with nations in the Indo-Pacific are all-important for its state security interests, while also beneficial for furthering goals pertaining to economic issues and challenging environmental targets, stated Anand while delivering a speech in the framework of the Halifax International Security Forum on Friday.
Stipulating that an increased military budget could be part of Ottawa’s far-reaching advanced policy for to the region, Anand stated:
💬 “Our strategy will position Canada as a leader in promoting peace and security in the region. We will increase our military presence and enhance our defense and security relationships with partners and allies in the region."

Since there is no voting on the final declaration in APEC, all 21 members had to agree on the wording, which is exactly what happened at the APEC summit in Bangkok. Even though most members opposed 🇷🇺 Russia's special military operation in Ukraine the declaration says that there are different views and assessments of the conflict within the organization, and that's something that Moscow wanted to see in the final document. Here's my recap of the APEC-2022 and chairmanship handover ceremony from 🇹🇭Thailand to the 🇺🇸US.

⚽️ The 22nd FIFA World Cup starts today in Qatar with the host nation taking on Ecuador. What do we know so far about the forthcoming competition?
▪️ Dates: It runs from November 20 to December 18
▪️ It'll be held in the Arab world for the first time
▪️ It's first time to be held in autumn/winter
▪️ Matches will take place in eight stadiums, seven of which were built specifically for the event
▪️ This will be the last World Cup where 32 teams will play (from 2026 there will be 48)
▪️ The prize fund of the tournament is $440 million
Favorites: Brazil's chances seem to have the experts and forecasters the least divided although the last winners of the tournament and present world champions, France, are a pretty popular bet as well. England, Spain, Germany and Argentina are also giving the bookies the jitters

🇯🇵 Japan's former prime minister Yoshiro Mori commented on the Ukraine crisis during a political gathering in Tokyo earlier this week, saying that "Ukraine's President Zelensky [is making] a large number of Ukrainians suffer."
Mori also lashed out at Japanese news outlets, saying their “one-sided” reporting on the war in Ukraine gives him the impression they “only rely on reports from Europe and the United States".
🗣“Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is leaning one-sidedly toward the United States,” Mori said. The veteran politician believes that “the one who could play a role of helping settle the current situation would have been former prime minister Shinzo Abe”. Abe was fatally shot during a campaign event in July.
