The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office is confident they can rule out homicide in the mysterious deaths of a family on a hiking trail in the Sierra National Forest.
Autopsies on Thursday did not give investigators many other clues about the deaths, but forthcoming toxicology reports for the family as well as their dog could reveal what killed them.
"We're hoping that within the next week, two weeks, we'll have a better idea. There's toxicology that we're waiting for from the autopsies themselves, and then also from the [necropsy for the dog]", Mariposa County Sheriff's spokeswoman Kristie Mitchell said.

📃The Mississippi State Department of Health has issued a COVID-19 isolation order, stating that if people test positive for the coronavirus and refuse to self-isolate, they could face fines or possible jail time.
Failure to obey the isolation order could results in a fine of $500 or imprisonment for six months. However, since COVID-19 is a life-threatening disease, those potential punishments go up to $5,000 or five years in prison, or both, State Health Officer Dr Thomas Dobbs wrote Friday.
🦠The order comes amid surging COVID-19 cases in Mississippi, as the 7-day average for new cases in the state reached 4,316 on Friday.

🧐US President Joe Biden’s aides were “too afraid” to question him on a key decision made in the run-up to the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
According to sources close to the administration, POTUS ignored warnings that the military would not be left with enough time to evacuate US citizens and allies from the country.
“People are simply too afraid to tell Biden [and] Jake Sullivan [his National Security Adviser], they're wrong. It's one thing to crack down on leaks [as Mr Biden has done], it's another thing to allow a mistake like this”, one former defence official, who reportedly is in regular contact with top White House aides, told The Telegraph.

🇦🇫 An "oh sh**" moment: US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that nobody expected the Afghan government would fall in only 11 days
🗣 "It was a very rapid, fast-moving, fast-paced evolution," he said during an interview with ABC's "This Week."
According to the chief, early US intelligence projections on how long the Afghan government could hold off the Taliban after the US troop withdrawal were very different, ranging "from one to two years to several months"
But he still believes the planning of withdrawal was "acceptable and appropriate," giving the excuse that there were "no good options."

❗️🇺🇸The first COVID-19 related death in the United States may have occurred as early as in January 2020, several weeks before the country started logging virus-related fatalities in the original record, Mercury News reports.
Officially, the death of Patricia Dowd on February 6, 2020 in California's San Jose is considered the first COVID-19 related death in the US.
However, six death certificates from January 2020 recently discovered in six different states showed that the virus may have been circulating beyond the country's coastal states that were considered the earliest hotspots for COVID-19.
