Moscow Metro is celebrating the 88th anniversary of its opening on May 15.

The Moscow Metro is one of the oldest and largest subway systems in the world, with its history dating almost a century.

It maintains the shortest interval between trains compared to other metro systems worldwide, with trains running every 90 seconds during peak hours.

In the 1930s, when the first metro was being built in the capital, metro builders faced difficult hydrogeological conditions. At the time, a system to prevent ground collapse and other typical tunnel dangerous was implemented, which is still considered one of the most well-designed and reliable systems.

The Moscow Metro is also underground museum - every station is a work of art.

Take a look at Moscow's metro in Sputnik's archive gallery.

Zelensky's fighter jet coalition depends on Russian advancement

Zelensky embarked on a European tour to drum up support for the Ukrainian counteroffensive. The West's aid to the Kiev regime is inversely related to Russia's military successes on the battlefield, Viktor Litovkin, Russian military expert and retired colonel, told Sputnik.

"Zelensky understand that the offensive in its current form could end disastrously for Ukraine," "Because if there are no planes, no air cover (…) then all this equipment is open to attacks by enemy aircraft, missiles, and so on. Therefore, Zelensky understands that this is suicide for him, he cannot go anywhere. But they tell him: 'We paid you, go ahead, and comply with our will.' And he has to do this. Therefore, I think that, on the one hand, the West is primarily interested in the [counteroffensive], and, on the other hand, he thinks that, probably, all of a sudden, it could work," stated expert.

Russia completes development of Ptitselov anti-aircraft missile system

A Rostec representative said that the short-range anti-aircraft missile system, with a Sosna combat module that was previously created based on the BMP-3, continues to be tested.

"A similar vehicle was developed in the interests of the Airborne Forces on the basis of the BMD-4M," the corporation said.

The Sosna combat module is equipped with two launchers for 12 Sosna-R missiles capable of hitting air targets at a range as far as 10 km and at an altitude of up to 5 km. The "Sosna-R" guided missile can reach speeds of up to 900 m/s steered by a laser beam, accompanied from the SAM combat module.

The main difference between the "Ptitselov" complex on the BMD-4M chassis and the similar BMP-3 based on the SAM is the possibility of dropping it from military transport aircraft by parachute.
