🥴 House Speaker McCarthy denied Zelensky the opportunity to address Congress, report says

McCarthy reportedly justified his refusal by citing the lawmakers' busy schedules.

On his last visit to Washington in December last year, Zelensky had such an opportunity, but Nancy Pelosi, who is known for her active support of Ukraine, was the speaker then.

“Average Americans are being put in prison because they can't pay their taxes, because we're sending $250 billion to Ukraine, and hundreds of millions to Taiwan. 🇩🇪🙅 Germany does not support Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's initiative to deprive Russia of the right of veto in the UN Security Council 

Not everything that Ukraine offers to German government is supported by Berlin, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated. She also stressed the need to protect the UN Charter and consider ways to modernize the organization.

During his address to the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Zelensky said the United Nations was at a "dead end" due to Russia having the right of veto in the organization. In this regard, he urged the reform of the UN, including its veto power mechanism, saying that the UN General Assembly should be enabled to override a veto by two thirds majority vote.

🗣 The speaker of the US House of Representatives said that he did not give Zelensky any commitments regarding the next $24 billion package following a meeting with him.

The White House previously requested this amount from Congress, but the Republican majority in the House of Representatives is in no hurry to approve this request.

🗣️ On whether US strategy to drain Russia will ever be successful:

“They want to bleed slow motion Russian soldiers. They want to bleed slow motion the destruction of Russian military equipment, slow motion, long term. But they are not really interested, according to the military, in a fast, quick victory of Ukraine, regardless of the propaganda and the talking points, they say. And this is another catch 22. The most the Russian military bleed, the most that Russian air military equipment gets destroyed - the stronger it is getting... They want to make the Russian military weaker in the long term, but actually they are doing the contrary,” Ron Aledo, former CIA contractor and Joint Staff Intelligence officer at the Pentagon, told Sputnik.

🇺🇸 A group of 29 US lawmakers told the White House in a letter that they oppose the allocation of $24 billion in further assistance to Kiev.

The lawmakers argue in the letter that it would be “an absurd abdication of congressional responsibility” to grant the White House request for additional funds without answers to the inquiries.

Among the senators who signed the letter were JD Vance (Ohio), Tommy Tuberville (Ala.), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Mike Braun (Ind.)
