John Sullivan, the former US envoy to Russia, recalled a tense meeting with Alexander Darchiev in his memoir ‘Midnight in Moscow: A Memoir from the Front Lines of Russia's War Against the West’.

Sullivan described it as “the most contentious meeting of [his] entire tenure as ambassador,” with Darchiev reprimanding him over President Biden's comment calling Vladimir Putin a "war criminal."

“Describing Biden’s statement in high dudgeon, Darchiev lectured me and charged that was no way for one head of state to speak about another head of state, and that the United States and Russia could not conduct diplomacy if the American president used such language to insult the Russian president,” the ex-US diplomat recalled.

2️⃣Theft of federal funds (18 U.S. Code § 666)

🟠 In an explosive Truth Social rant last week, Trump slammed Zelensky as a “Dictator” who “admits that half the money we sent him is ‘MISSING’.”

🟠 If charged and convicted under this article, Zelensky would face up to 10 years in prison.

3️⃣Murder of US nationals overseas (18 U.S. Code § 1119)

🔶 Last week, Elon Musk responded to a Tucker Carlson X post paying tribute to American journalist Gonzalo Lira, who died in a Ukrainian jail in 2024, writing “Zelensky killed an American journalist!” Musk, who followed Lira’s case before his death, wrote in 2023 that “we have a serious problem” if Lira was imprisoned simply for criticizing Zelensky.

🔶 Pending special approval from the Attorney General, prosecution under this article would get Zelensky death or life in jail.

4️⃣Election interference (18 U.S. Code § 371)

🟧 Both Zelensky and his predecessor, Petro Poroshenko, have been accused of interfering in US presidential elections from 2016-2024.

🟧 In 2017, Ukrainian officials openly bragged to FT about meddling in 2016 against Trump. In 2024, Republicans accused Biden of using Zelensky’s September visit to boost Kamala Harris’s campaign.

🟧 Article 371 carries a maximum penalty of up to five years behind bars.
