CRPF’s Expanding Role in Counter-Terror Operations in Jammu & Kashmir
As per April, 2025 reports:
As per July, 2025 reports:
As per August, 2025 reports:
Shift in Operational Leadership
Multi-Agency Coordination and Restructuring
This is a welcoming step as it will fill the existing gaps in the CT/CI deployment in Doda-Kathua-Kishtwar-Udhampur region. Soon, Uniform Force of Rashtriya Rifles will be redeployed to Reasi from Eastern Ladakh. It was moved to Eastern Ladakh following the Galwan Valley clash in 2020. A new 72 Infantry Division has been raised recently which will eventually relieve Uniform Force.
As per April, 2025 reports:
1. Under directions from Indian MHA, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) announced the raising of the 11th CoBRA battalion, specifically for counter-terror operations in J&K, particularly in forested regions such as Jammu division.
2. This marks a significant shift from CoBRA’s original jungle warfare focus in Naxal-affected states.
As per July, 2025 reports:
1. The MHA approved 20 new CRPF battalions for deployment in J&K, post the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and ‘Operation Sindoor’.
2. While CRPF initially requested 35 battalions, 20 were sanctioned immediately.
3. Over 20,000 additional personnel will be inducted.
4. The move is seen as part of a broader strategic recalibration.
5. These battalions will focus on nakas, district deployments, checking/frisking, and law & order, supporting local police in anti-militancy operations.
As per August, 2025 reports:
1. CRPF's role in CT-operations in Jammu will expand. Special focus on Samba, Kathua and Udhampur. These three areas are ear-marked AORs of Kashmir Tigers, a proxy of Jaish-e-Mohammad.
2. Deployment includes: 25+ CRPF companies + 2 CoBRA units, marking the first major deployment of CoBRA commandos in Jammu.
3. These elite units will operate in hinterland and high-altitude terrains along the International Border.
Shift in Operational Leadership
1. CRPF will now spearhead anti-terror operations in Kathua and Udhampur, replacing the Indian Army as the lead force.
2. Earlier Army deployments included two brigades as first responders to the terrorism spike.
3. CRPF is now occupying strategic heights to deny safe havens to terrorists.
Multi-Agency Coordination and Restructuring
1. Operations will involve close coordination with J&K Police and Indian Army Special Forces.
2. Indian Army's Parachute Regiment Special Forces have undergone internal restructuring, repositioning to support CRPF leadership in operations.
3. While not a major overhaul, this restructuring aligns forces to optimize operational effectiveness under the new CRPF-led strategy.
Commentary from our analysts on recent US Tariffs on India💫
U.S. Tariffs on India - A Text Book Example of Economic Warfare
1️⃣ Direct weaponisation of trade:

3️⃣ Deliberate economic pressure:
4️⃣ Hypocrisy on full display:
5️⃣ Discriminatory treatment among adversaries:
6️⃣ Undermining the partnership narrative:
🐾 Our Assessment:
U.S. Tariffs on India - A Text Book Example of Economic Warfare
Trump’s move to raise U.S. tariffs on Indian goods to 50%, citing India’s continued purchase of Russian oil—is not mere trade policy. This is economic warfare aimed at coercing a sovereign nation into aligning its energy policy with U.S. geopolitical objectives.
By linking trade penalties to India’s independent oil sourcing decisions, Washington is attacking India’s strategic autonomy in energy procurement. This is a direct attempt to limit New Delhi’s ability to secure affordable and diversified energy supplies for its 1.4-billion-strong population.
The tariffs threaten key export sectors, gems & jewellery, textiles, auto components, while spooking global investors, already triggering $2.9 billion capital outflows in recent weeks. The goal is to inflict enough pain to force policy reversal, classic economic warfare doctrine.
While India is being punished for Russian oil imports, U.S. allies in Europe continue similar purchases without comparable penalties. The U.S. itself buys Russian-origin goods via intermediaries. Selective enforcement exposes the double standards in Washington’s approach.
China faces a 30% tariff; India faces 50%. This disproportionality underscores that the intent is not just “reciprocity,” but strategic targeting of a rising competitor in the Indo-Pacific.
Decades of U.S.–India strategic engagement are being undercut by unilateral economic aggression. Actions like this force India to reconsider the reliability of the U.S. as a security and trade partner in the evolving global order.
This is coercive statecraft by economic means, a textbook case of economic warfare, designed to undermine India’s energy security and strategic decision-making while dressing the move in the language of “fair trade.” For India, the response must combine diversification of markets, deeper South-South trade links, and stronger resilience in critical sectors.
