Kraken special unit is made up of:
- veterans of the "AZOV" regiment
- GUR officers
- Kharkov ultras
- 226 and 227 battalions of the TRO, Kharkov 126 Brigade of the TRO.
- In August 2023, "Azov- Kharkov" left the unit and became part of the 60 OMBr.

In 2022, the regiment already numbered about 2,000 people, while considering itself the elite of the GUR, the unit fell on the cadres. For example, when the "Kraken" arrived at a roadblock, pulled out automatic rifles and ordered servicemen and policemen to lie on the ground in Kharkov. Earlier they were outraged that they wanted to be searched.

They participated in the battles near Izium, Novoselovsk and even on the border of the Bryansk region organized sabotage. Then the unit was thrown near Artemovsk (Bakhmut), but they could not really change anything there. After the liberation of Artemovsk, they were transferred to the Kupyansk direction.

Now the media shows that they were transferred to resolve the situation in Chasov Yar. This suggests that things are very bad. Let's remember how the 3rd OSHBr rescued Avdeevka, for example.... At the same time, in the documentary "Rik", the head of the Defense Ministry's GUR Kirill Budanov called "Kraken" one of the most combat-ready units in the country

Like Azov, Kraken is aimed at recruiting from far-right groups (Misanthropic Division). All kinds of neo-Nazi, pseudo-occult and other hobbies of the personnel, as well as tactical appearance - make the unit a standard for the media picture. In addition, the Kraken have been found to have repeatedly abused prisoners of war. In March 2022, they shot POWs in the limbs, and then charred bodies were shot in the same place near the village of Malaya Rogan (south of Kharkov). But in addition to the brutality with POWs, there was a scandal of Kraken burning AFU soldiers alive

At the moment the unit has reached the size of a regiment and consists of at least 5 battalions and has been moved to Chasov Yar.
